View Full Version : worth it to switch from snugride to blvd/marathon now?

Hi there. I have a 10-week old who is about 13 1/2 lbs, 24 inches, and we have him in a Snugride. I'm returning to work in a month, so we need to get another car seat for my husband, and one for my mom (who's our day care...lucky, lucky me!)

We were thinking of just getting extra bases for the Snugride so we could use it until DS outgrows it, but I just found out a local baby store where I have TONS of store credit will be having a one-hour 20% off sale on most everything in the store, so I would able to get either a Marathon for $216 or a Boulevard for $240. It seems these are really good prices, and I'm still trying to decide between the two.

Should I go ahead and get them for all our cars now? My concerns are these: will either the Marathon or Blvd. be suitable/safe/comfy for DS now, and how long is the expiration date for Britaxes? I'd like it to last as long as possible, so I don't know if it's worth saving the money now if it means it will just expire that much sooner.

Thanks in advice for helping a sometimes neurotic, indecisive mom.

Britax seats expire 6 years from the date of manufacture. Your son seems like he is growing quick. If you can get a good deal on a MA or BV now then I would go for it. The BV has the extra infant inserts to help take up extra space. I have both seats and love them both equally :) I would try him in each seat before you purchase one to make sure he fits ok. The BV has a adjustor knob. Adjust it o the lowest position and go up from there. The MA has 4 seats of harness slots you have to thread. I imagine he will need to be on the lowest slot. The harness needs to be at or below his shoulders for RF. *IF* the harness is a tad above his shoulders less than 1 inch this is acceptable.

I just moved my dd out of a snugride and now have 3 bases. If you are in St. Louis, MO, I could sell you the bases cheap. Probably not worth shipping though.

The snugride really isn't that difficult to install without the base. Maybe you can get your husband comfortable to use the carrier without a base and buy another base for your mother. That Britax sale might be a good time to pick up one seat, though it might be best to wait on buying 3 at once just to make sure you like whatever seat you buy. Britax will probably be running another sale online in February which may beat the store's advertised prices.

Thanks, that might be the thing to do. Would the Feb. sale be on the Britax site?

The past sale (it just lasted for a few weeks last month) was found on a few online retailer sites. Britax seems to clear out seats twice a year and allow retailers to sell seats on sale (not something you typically see on those seats). Usually the sale is in February and September. If there is a sale, I am sure it will be posted here for all to see.

I bought my Britax Regent last month during the sale for $198 from albeebaby.com which is a pretty good price for that seat.
