View Full Version : Seat Belt Buckle on Marathon Install?

We finally got our Marathon-yay!- and I think I'm happy with the install, except for where the seat belt buckle is sitting. You can see it in this pic (http://img524.imageshack.us/my.php?image=bucklecq0.jpg)
The belt end is sitting right on the lock-off, so I can't use it. The centre lap belt is the kind that adjusts by pulling the belt back on itself rather than by retracting (hope that makes sense) and I've got the lockoff closed on the other side.

The outboard positions are shoulder/lap belts and the buckle ends up in essentially the same position on the seat.

Can I twist the stalk to lower the buckle and get it closer to the car's seat?

Thanks!

To be clear, the center seating position is a lap-only belt? If so, you have to be able to get the seat in tight without using the lock off. The lock off is for locking a shoulder belt. Does the seatbelt stay nice and tight after you install the seat? If so, you should be good to go. If not, let us know. There are a couple of "tricks of the trade" that should fix it quite easily.

If you do need to install it outboard sometime, then, yes, you can twist the female end of the buckle up to 3 full turns (http://carseat.org/Technical/tech_update.htm#twistedvehbelt) to pull the bring it down out of the belt path if that's an issue (it depends on the vehicle). Also, Britax allows you to use either or both lock offs when installing with a shoulder belt, so if you can lock the belt in the far-side lock off, and get the seat in tight that way, don't sweat that you can't close the near-side lock off on the belt. You may find that the seatbelt stalk is long enough that it keeps you from getting the seat in tight--that it hits the belt path just at the wrong angle. In that case, twisting the stalk (up to 3 full turns) usually does the trick.

Thanks! The centre belt is lap only, and the install is good and tight without the lock-off. But I was concerned since the manual seems to indicate it's a bad idea to have the buckle sitting so close to the carseat, so I was wondering if I should twist the stalk to get it lower.
