I finally got a dealer to honor the bulletin on free installation of the tether hooks but I believe they installed them wrong. They are backwards and they tore up my back dashboard. The guy was so nice and helpful now I need to go back, I hope they fix what they screwed up. Here are pics.

Is that a Ford? Someone got something that looked just like that last week and posted pics...wow, how awful!

It's a Mercury Sable, almost the same but a bit different. Yes the things sticking out are ridiculous and, well, ugly. And it torn up my fabric. I may not know how to install those or even much abot cars but I'm pretty sure its not supposed to tear up my dash. BTW they are in back of each passenger seat If you notice one doesn't even have the actual hook. Yes one side is two peices and the other is only one.

geesh, what a hack job. i'd be furious!!! they need to replace the rear cover!!! and figure out where the proper locations are for the tethers! i'll bet they gave this job to a real "green" tech... someone really low on the totem pole. they always get the small jobs, the senior techs would never get a simple job like that. and it's the green techs you have to worry about. straight out of ASE training, a lot of them have no real world experience.

Yep I know, actually a senior tech is the one who's supposed to install it, while its something that any car owner can do in a dealership thye need to protect themselves. But when I called today they guy I spoke to asked me what made "me" think it was installed wrong. And told me to call back the next day.

I sent a fax to the guy who was helping me get the tethers asking that they uninstall, repair the back dash and reinstall properly or give m e the kits and i'll take it elsewhere. Well today I went back and all was done as I asked, :). Also befor ethey werent able to put one of the tethers in the middle, but this time they installed properly on passenger side and middle! The guy really was helpful and very nice about it.

Glad they got it all sorted out for you.

So did they end up just making a neat cut in the panel then? I've never seen anything other than slits in that back panel when TA's have been retrofitted. I think the longer one is the type they have to use in the middle and the shorter ones get used in the outboard positions.

Do you have pic's of how it looks now for comparison? :)
