We were playing around with dd's Husky today, to see if I could install it with the recline bar in my screwy rear-row.

It's actually tighter LBP + recline bar than it was LBP without the recline bar. (Without the recline bar there's about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of back-to-front movement.)

The Husky is more reclined now, though, and I'm not sure which I prefer. Both are acceptable installs, but I like my FF carseats quite upright and completely flush with the seatback.

So my question is:
How much recline is considered acceptable?

I think *some* recline is good :p (eta, ok, this is NOT what I was meaning to say in this 'tone'...yikes! Debbie, I'm with you, upright is good!!! I'm just saying 'it's vague' lol)

Got pictures? Does the Mazda 5 seat actually recline? If not, I'd not worry a bit about what the recline bar is doing. The recline bar reduces head excursion, so it's not bad

I don't think they really know for sure...I mean, they have their test bench, not thousands of different cars, to test in. They can approximate, they may have invented different sized recline bars or something...this is the setup they think will work best in the widest range of cars, with the widest range of kids. I don't think we have to sweat the small details any more than they already have, KWIM? Though when we get our car-seat.org test facility up and running, we'll find out for sure :)

I asked this question a month ago I think and I cant remember if I got a reply.

In my mom's vehicle, with the recline bar, the regent has a 39.7" recline http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL493/2241001/9131735/264811039.jpg Even though I tried to get it as upright as possible.
I had SPB estimate it for me. I knew it was way overreclined, but not sure how much. I was wondering how much recline is OK?

LOL, gotcha - and that's what I was afraid of. I'm rather obsessive about getting the carseats as upright as possible!

Got pictures? You must have forgotten who you were talking to... ;)

The vehicle seat itself doesn't recline at all (sure would make installations easier if it did!) Here's the difference, though:
Before (no recline bar):

After (with recline bar):

Hey, this is the place I come to sweat the details! :D

Ok, THAT is a detail I'd be sweating... holy COW!
They definitely do want the base flat on the vehicle seat cushion... how can you make that happen? (magic wand?)

Actually, it's REALLY hard to take a pic from the side in this vehicle, so I couldn't really get the bottom... wait, I took about twelve pics, maybe I did get it... Anyway, it really is touching the bottom of the vehicle seat at least 80%.

Okay, here's a pic that shows the bottom:

I was just thinking about this and dug it up... if you really think 80% is on the seat (hard to tell from here...), then I'm sure it's fine... :)

Thanks for the follow-up!

I got fussy about it and took the recline bar out, and then braced my back against the roof of the car to compress the vehicle seat enough that I got rid of that 1/2" of front-to-back movement I had been getting without the recline bar. I think both installs are perfectly acceptable, I just prefer upright.

So now it's very upright, and rock-solid. Perfect. ;)
