View Full Version : RF Wizard tether to seatbelt?

We installed DS's old Wizard for DD in DH's 05 Buick Rendezvous. Unfortunately there's really no place to tether it to. The seats go all the way to the floor. There's no place to thread the tether to. We put it around the seatbelt stalk but it just slides up and isn't tight.

The back seat (the seat the Wizard is on) has a gap between the seat and floor that I could hook the tether to. Can you do that?

Help me out. I'm lost!

You cannot tether a rf Britax seat to the same vehicle seat on which it is installed.

Is there any plastic trim on the bottom of the front seats that you could pop off to expose a seat leg or similar? Can you post a picture? Maybe we could help you spot something to wrap the d-ring around.

Well its 12:30 am here, but I tried my best to get some decent pictures. It is way dark and COLD here. Monday it was 90. Now its freezing.

Here's where its tethered now to the passenger seatbelt stalk (the male part of the seatbelt). The Dring is the black line. Sorry for the blurry photo. Tethered this way seems useless. It slides all the way up and down the seatbelt, most likely affecting the seatbelt in the event of a crash:

Here's the underside of the front passenger seat. You'll see there's nothing to hook the d-ring to. The seat goes all the way to the floor:
On the underside of the driver's seat there is a bar thing that goes width wise on the underside of the seat. I wonder what it is for and if it could be used? It wouldn't be very practical tho because DH couldn't really pick up dd and climb over DS's car seat to get her into her seat. He parks on the left side of the garage and there's no room between him and the wall. He climbs out the passenger side LOL

Here's the whole thing. Is it angled enough? DD doesn't like to be reclined very much. She's almost 11 months old. About 18 lbs and I'm not sure how tall any more.

Can you thread the d-ring through that hole on the metal part that goes from the track to the floor? Or wrap it around the metal part that goes from the track to the floor? I think we've done the latter before.

I think the recline is fine, but what is it you're using as a seat cover? Is it one piece that goes along the vehicle seat back and bottom?

How much space is there between the black panel and the seat leg and track? As long as they are not flush, I think you can get the d-ring through there. It may take a bit of work (and something long and skinny like a pen or a ruler) to feed it through, but I think you have some options:

Unfortunately, the black piece is flush against the 2 parts you noted. I'm going to make DH ask the techs at work (He works for the company that does all of GM's service technician training) where I can hook this to. They are woefully ignorant of car seats, but they might have an idea.

bummer! Hopefully the service techs will have some insight.

Okay, here you go. I found a used Rendezvous at a dealer near my house after a check today. Here's a tether point that is directly anchored to the floor, is narrow enough that the d-ring fits around, the d-ring won't slip and it doesn't interfere with the use of the front seat.

It took me 1-2 minutes to work it through the gap, which is comparatively long when considering how long it usually takes to wrap the d-ring around something. I'd consider ordering a second one if this is a seat that is reinstalled in different vehicles often.
