:p The seat for the family with the Kyle David Miller foundation arrived today.

I won't post the pattern in case the mom reads here, but I can hardly wait to meet her so I can take it out of it's box. LOL. Although come to think of it, I'm doing a seat check this afternoon for a family that just bought a Marathon yesterday, so I bet it's one of the new ones too.

Oh well, had to share my excitement. There's something novel about finally getting to see one of the new ones. :o

I have a quick question...I've heard of KDM, but what exactly is the protocol for getting a seat from them? I have a family close to me that could really use one.

Yay for a new seat!

You can go to the KDM foundation's website... the criteria for who they help is on there.

They are not officially in Canada yet, they are just doing a few trial runs to see how it goes.

Exactly what Jen said. They're not officially in Canada yet. The family in our city here is one of 3 or 4 that have been chosen for the test run.

Based on how the process goes - and I'm guessing funding also, they'll decide if they're going to routinely accept families in Canada. I do know one of the requirements for US families is they have to be receiving some sort of government assistance. I have no knowledge of what kind of criteria was used for the selection of the family I'm helping though.

There's a place to apply on their website though, so you could refer your friend to the site. I don't know the url off the top of my head though. :o

LOL, I'm always willing to check seats. You can email or PM me through my profile.

Not that the suspense was that long lived, but I'll reveal the pattern now..lol. The little guy received a seat in the onyx pattern. The sides of that cover are soooo soft and plush, I was surprised.

The other install I did tonight was indeed a 65lb MA and it was a cowmoo print.

The 2 seats had different style covers - the cowmoo had the new sewn flap style, but the onyx still had the velcro flap cover style on it so they must be using up old covers first. The new sewn flaps are certainly going to make it impossible for a kiddo with a properly tightened harness to reach the adjuster.

What's the rf weight limit on those seats now? Is it still 30 lbs? Or has TC come to their senses yet?

The limit is still 30lbs. But it isn't set by TC. I actually had some emails with them about this a few months ago, and there is no maximum limit that TC has imposed for awhile now.

Manufacturers are free to certify their seats to whatever weight rf'ing they wish as long as they meet CMVSS standards. I was told that if I wanted to see seats with higher rf'ing weight limits here that the people to talk to were the car seat manufacturers themselves... so whatever legislation that was there at one time (not sure what it was, only heard rumor of it,) isn't there anymore. :shrug-shoulders:

Thanks for doing the installation! Our others seem to be held up in customs. :(

You're welcome. :D

And sorry about customs. Some crossings seem to get more backed up than others and it's not a case of acttually being "stuck" but just that the queu is long to actually get processed. I think it all depends on what crossing it goes through - at least based on the amount of things I've had shipped to me from the US it's my theory on the variation in shipping times.
