I had a GC for a shop that carried these great fleece ponchos, so I got one for my DD - it's super soft and yummy. I'm not crafty at all, so making my own wasn't going to happen. :)

I got the black one with hot pink trim. They even have one that would be good for a boy - hunter green with a cowboy-esque suede fringe.

They are pricey ($40-50 depending on size), but one thing I thought about is that DD will most likely be able to wear hers for two years, which is unusual for a piece of clothing at her age. I did have a gift certificate, though, which made the decision a lot easier. :)

Are they warm enough to use as a winter coat?

I believe they're intended just for travelling from the house to the car, and from the car to your destination. If your child is going to be playing out in the snow, they'd probably prefer a winter coat.

I'm glad to see the bigger sizes, but those little tassle ballies would annoy me to no end.

So cute! I hope to save up to buy our new little one a carseat poncho. I like the zipper to make buckling easier. If I can't swing it, my mom is quite good with sewing and she could probably make me one. I would like to support carseat poncho if I can however because it is a terrific idea.

I've seen a few WAHM's over at DS making similar products, but not quite as nice..but lots cheaper...like, in the $10 range....you can find them over there is you are interested!
