hello all,

I have an infant boy, 7 months old. Currently using a Primo Viaggio SIP. At a recent doctor's appt, our doctor measured him to be 76 cm which is at the height limit for this seat. It would appear time for a new seat...

However, I noticed that the doctor did a very rough measurement from the top of his head to the tip of his toes, with his toes pointing downward, effectively extending his height. Is this the proper way to determine a child's height for a car seat? Or would you measure from top of head to the bottom of the child's heel?

thx in advance.

A standing height limit on a car seat is just an estimate of when it might be outgrown. The seat is outgrown by torso height and weight. Since some babies have their height in their legs while others in ther torso, it is really impossible to use a standing height for outgrowing a car seat.

A rear facing car seat is outgrown when one of the following conditions is true.
* The child has reached the weight limit on the seat
* The child's head is within 1 inch (2.54 cm) from the top hard plastic shell on the car seat.

The height limits listed are guidelines. Your son has outgrown his infant carrier when ONE of the following happens...

1. Weight limit is reached. OR
2. Top of the head has less than 1 inch of hard shell above him.
