I was at TJs today buying gifts and saw the Princess Radian-very cute! However, the prices are not cute. The base Radian is now $249 and the Premier is $289. I asked why and was told it's because Radians are now similar to Britax (standards, etc) and they are all now approved to 65lbs FF. I wonder what their sales will be like, they may have to lower their price. I'm very thankful I got a Premier when they were on sale for $229. I'm tempted to buy the new Cosco Princess seat for my little baby friend, not a Radian but cute as well.

That's a bummer! We were considering a Radian as a second "travel seat" to replace our notched Regal Ride. Not really a bargin anymore though...
On the other hand, with the strong Canadian dollar (in comparison to the US), the price really shouldn't be going up. It is really no wonder that parents consider purchasing seats in the US. If I were to take a little drive, I could buy so many nice seats at a reduced price. It sure is tempting...
Thanks for the heads-up! You are very very lucky you were able to purchase a Premier for $229!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's bogus the prices being raised when the CDN $$ is at par with the US $$. The Marathon price should be being dropped, not the Radian price raised.
Phooey.
(can you tell I'm getting irked at the disparity in prices between the US and Canada and the conversion reason hasn't existed for awhile now... How is it that prices can be raised now when they should be going down. There's not even the old stock bought at old prices in this case.)

Actually we should see US prices for goods rising significantly over the next year, if the US dollar continues to be so weak. Reason being--the foreign materials and foreign labour used to produce just about everything in the United States is costing more as a result of a weak dollar.
If it were the Canadian dollar rising, prices should come down..however, the Canadian dollar isn't really rising (relative to other currencies)...the US dollar has fallen.

The canadian Dollar is actually rising, not as much as the US dollar is falling, but still rising. According to the news here (Alberta), it's because of the oil boom.
Prices should be at least on par with the states within a few months, at least that's what the people who make all the $$ and tell us about it, say on the news.

Those experts were obviously only looking at a just one variable--oil...since the par dollar (which already happened, by the way, last Thursday) was more as a result of the US fed lowering interest rates to attempt to avoid a continued real estate housing crash as a result of defaults due to higher rates. IME, the Canadian dollar has not risen too significantly to the GBP or EUR since I deal with those currencies for my business. My dad is an economist and we have great email conversations on this very issue every morning.
I think as Canadians we'd like to believe that our country's economics have a lot to do with internal politics and resources, but in the end we're still at the mercy of global economics.

I have sort of felt that the prices at TJ's are a little more then what you would pay at some other stores. Then again TJ's is more of a baby boutique and baby boutique's tend to be a little bit more expensive as you are also paying for using a smaller business and often the services that they provide. As long as Canadian Tire has there Radians for $199 or cheaper then I would guess that Sunshine kids hasn't capped the price :twocents:
Now about the price of the US Radian vs. the Canadian Radian, the CDN Radian has been pretty much the same price as the US Radian since it came out here in Canada a year ago. We have many seats here in Canada that in the US are sometimes half (or more) the price (ie. CDN Scenera $89 (on-sale), US Scenera $35 (on-sale)). The Radian is a great seat but I would really love to see some more affordable seats available here in Canada like a $35 Scenera. As far as I am concerned if you can get a brand new seat for $35 there is no need to spend the same money on an expired seat from a garage sale (i'm sure it still happens though) :twocents:
Also if you look at some of the other prices in the US they aren't all that great (depends where you are). When I have gone across the line it is cheaper for me to bring my own snacks then to buy them once we get there. The chips and coke is the same price if not more then what I would pay at home and I saw a tube of colgate that I would pay at the most $1.49 for over $3

Hi gals... just wanted to add that as Jolenet mentions, the Radian Premier sells for $269 in several baby boutiques (www.dearbornbaby.com even offers free shipping - no surcharge for heavy item) and the base Radian is availble for $229. TJs is over priced at $289.
www.tummiestotots.com also sells for $269. :)
