Regarding rollover ratings: The Honda Pilot w/o stablity control or side curtain airbags had a 4-star rollover rating. The Toyota Highlander with stabilty control and side curtain airbags had a 3-star rollover rating. The Pilot was a frontal crash best pick and the Highlander was not. With this mix of features, and test results how does one determine the safest car? Are they equal?

With incomplete data, it is difficult to make a very good comparison. Why not play it safe and get a Pilot with side curtain airbags and stability control? Granted, you'd have to get the more expensive but essentially identical Acura MDX to do that...

As far as SUVs go, either Pilot or Highlander are probably above average overall for safety.

The NHTSA released its latest 2004 rollover ratings today. The 2004 ratings include a dynamic rollover test that was not included in previous years:

Well, well...look at that... My RX-8, the car of my dreams, is the only 5 star rated car, and the Honda Odyssey isn't even rated. Should I take that as a sign to trade in the Ody, Darren?

Just kidding, but I can have my dreams, right?
