Is there Fisher Price Safe Voyage and a Fisher Price Safe Voyage Deluxe? If so, what are the differences? Also, I have found that many places are not carrying these seats...did they stop making them? If I order one online will I get one that was manufactured awhile ago?

There's no difference. Some sites leave "deluxe" off the name. There is a Fisher Price Safe Voyage Booster as well, but the differences there are clear.

These have been discontinued. Britax conitnued making them until they ran out of parts, which seems to have happened as older DOM's have been shipping recently. I wouldn't wait too long if you're seriously considering one.

When they first came out, the Safe Voyage was the 40-pound version and the Deluxe was the 55-pound version.

I could be wrong but I thought the Fisher Price Safe Voyage was based on the Roundabout and only went to 40lbs

ETA: Posted at the same time as Patriot.

really? huh. I've never seen a 40 lb version. I was pretty late to the FPSV(D) game though. They had already announced the discontinuation before I'd even heard of them. I think if you're searching now the only difference is in name.

I think you are probably right! :)

We would probably have to order the FPSV online, so the DOM is of concern to me. Is it 6 years that car seats expire? At what age do you find that children are growing out of similar seats? I wouldn't mind if the DOM is a little while ago, but I want the car seat to last long enough for my son to outgrow it before it will expire.

If the FPSV is not a good choice because of expiration concerns, what other reasonably priced seat would you recommend? We will go with the Marathon if we have to but we really need something less expensive.

Thank you all for taking time out to help me! I feel like this is a big decision and I want to make the right one.

They were still making them as of this summer. I have two, one with a March 2007 and one with a June 2007 DOM.

I got my FPSVD from Burlington Coat Factory last month for $99. It has a DOM of Nov 2006. I bought it for ds2 who is 1 and 18lbs (maybe) and 27.5 inc. I love it.
Ds2 is in in temporarily until his APex arrives. He will be 5 on the 20th. He is 45" and 38.5#s and the tops slots are even with his shoulders. So he would not be able to ride in it long. He fits the same way in a Marathon. So much for the 49" limit. LOL.

It is a good car seat. I love it. Ds2 is shorter then ds1 so I think he will get much more use out of it.

My sil just ordered a FPSVD from albeebaby.com. I'll let you know the DOM when she gets it.

That would be awesome! That is who we were going to order it from!

Well it's not really good news. My sil got her FPSVD yesterday and the DOM is 6/28/06. She's okay with it because her dd is 2.5 already. It still seems like a good deal for the price.

did she get the tan or the red? The tan ones have had a June/July 06 DOM for months now. The red ones were shipping with recent DOMs, but I've been reading about people receiving older ones (as in, 06) in the past few weeks.

It's the one that's black down the center and the color on the sides, well I'm not even sure how to describe it. It looks gray on the website but it's not.

yeah, that's the one I meant by tan. You're right, it's hard to describe. It's definitely not gray. The sides are kind of a shiny tan.
