View Full Version : Questions about our Regent and Marathon

I'm confused again about my dd's Regent. We recently received a package from Britax with some straps etc and an instruction booklet enclosed. There was no letter or anything explaining what exactly was going on.
I went to the Britax website tonight and I'm still confused. My husband does the installing of the car seats and at this point we are both not exactly sure as to how to install the regent.
We have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT with quad seating. My daughter is right around 50 pounds. It was my understanding that her seat should no longer be installed using LATCH, is that correct? And if not exactly what should be done? Do you still use the top tether?
Also wanted to throw in a question about my son's marathon. Ever since we turned him FF his seat just looks funny to me. My son and the seat just seem to be sort of laying back. The recline bar thingee or whatever it's called isn't up anymore so that can't be the problem. I don't know if maybe that's just the way the seat is? My daughter only used it for a week once when we went on vacation and needed a different seat to take on the plane so I guess I didn't notice this with her in it. Plus she was four at the time and my son is only 1.
Should he look like he's sort of tilted back a bit in the seat?
Thanks guys for your help. Like I say everytime I post a question, I don't know what I'd do without all your help!

You're correct that you should install install with the seatbelt after 48 lbs in your particular van. You need to use the short belt path at 50 lbs. Also, the Regent must absolutely be tethered above 50 lbs.
Can you post pictures of the MA? The only thing I could think of was that it was still in rf recline mode, but I think you said that isn't the case.

With your Marathon it could be the installation. In my siggy my son is in a properly installed Marathon. You can't see the whole seat but you can tell how he is sitting that there is very little incline, just enough to make him comfortable while sleeping. Can you post some pics of the installed seat?
The package you received in the mail for the Regent is the update kit. You will not need it as your child is over 40 pounds, just save it for if you pass the seat down to a smaller child. As PP states your seat must be installed using the Short Belt Path of instillation and must be top tethered. Here are the three links from the Britax site that will explain the kit you received and the advisory that goes with it:

Thanks for the replies! I would love to post a picture of ds in our marathon, but can anyone tell me how to post a picture on here?
I'll get a picture taken tomorrow and post as soon as I figure out how.

I use photobucket for posting photos, but I think any online photo sharing site will work (flickr, snapfish, etc).
Copy the direct link for the photo and then click the little yellow square icon that looks like a mountain when you're posting here. Paste the link for the photo in that box. I think there's also a way to attach a file directly, but I've never tried it.

From photobucket, copy the IMG code (line3 of codes) and paste into your reply.

Maybe I miss understood your post, but is your son forward facing or rearfacing, i believe you said he was 1, but the marathon can be used rear facing for up to 33 lbs, and instead of a 45 degree angle you can have him sit more upright at around 30 degrees if the seat will allow it. but britax seats have a naturla recline to them, they dont sit very upright, but is also depends on how slanted the bench is on the backseat

Well no pictures yet as I cannot find my camera anywhere! I even tried to use my daughter's darn barbie digital camera but let's just say that it's not quite a quality camera!
Yes my son is forward facing. The back seats (second row) in our van seem to me to look like they lean back so much. The first time I actually sat in the back it was in the third row seats pretty soon after we got the van. I was convinced my husband didn't have them put back up right after doing the stow and go thing. But they are right. I wouldn't want to ride back there for any amount of time that's for sure. I have no idea why they had to make the seats like they.
My daughter's regent doesn't seem to lay back like the marathon though, so I don't know. I will keep working on finding my camera and trying to borrow one if I have to.

She's got a whole 'nother long post about how difficult it's been with her son RF, so he's FF, and she wants to put him back that way again
(and he means, the RF kiddo can be in a rather upright seat, he might be complaining about being RF because he doesn't want to be lying down so much when RF)
