View Full Version : Stupid question checking recline

Okay this might seem like a stupid question but where on the carseat should you check the recline angle. I have DS in a Boulevard and I bought one of those neat angle measuring doohickey things. The one like a 360 degree protractor with the arrow floating in it. However, the measurement is different depending on where I place it on the seat. If I put it on the head rest it shows very upright, if I put it on the inside of the seat back it's more reclined, if I put it on the inside of the seat shell above the headwings it's even more reclined, along the outside back of the seat is a huge difference. I know I'm within the safe zone but just a few degrees can make the difference between okay and over reclined. DS likes more upright but is still learning how to sleep in the BV without head slump. If I play with it and get it just right that it looks comfortable, some measurements show too much. I'm sure I'm over thinking this but humor me please:rolleyes:

Put the "measuring doohickey" (lol) on the inside of the seat, right where his back goes.

I posted the other day that I think they should have a built in level showing the different degrees that the seat is at. Sort of like the Chicco. Or at least and indication line on the sides that we could go by. There are just too many different results depending where you try to level it from.
Good luck!!

You are right some seats do have this feature. However the OP's Britax BV does not. Usually you will see this on infant seats.

I abuse SPB and his ability to check since I couldn't figure out that doohicky thing.

As long as the seat isn't over-reclined, then don't worry about the exact angle unless you're wanting to know for curiousity reasons. ;)

Watch your ds when he falls asleep - if his head falls forward chin to chest instead of to the side, then he's too upright and you need to recline him a bit more. If it's not falling forward, you can try him a bit more upright and repeat. As long as you're in the range of not too upright and not over-reclined, then you're fine.

30 degrees is pretty upright, and anything more than that does start to look too upright, so even without that angle measurement, you should be able to get a good angle. Seeing as you're trying to get him more upright, I'm guessing you won't have trouble with having the seat over-reclined.

Thanks for the replies, and I figured the inside/back of the seat was the most logical place, just wanted to make sure. I'm not losing sleep over this or anything I was just curious. DS's comfort is of course the main thing. It's just that when it is just right for him, and looks pretty upright, the angle is about 35 degrees + or - on the inside and more than 45 degrees on the outside. Even a photo checked on the computer will vary alot depending on where you place the lines. I guess I was just asking where to put the line if you know what I mean.:)
