View Full Version : Anyone else worried about the Signo install?

I am thinking of pre-ordering a signo. The BLVD doesn't install well in the middle of my car, so I am really hoping the signo does!!! Anyone else leery of ordering it in case it doesn't install well?
Right now, my BLVD is touching the seat in front of it (which I am pretty sure is OK with a Britax,) I hope that will be ok with the new Recaros too!

How exactly is your BV not installing well? Britax's have a slightly curved base which makes it one of the easiest carseats to install in a center hump.

What happens is that I get it very tight, and nice and upright. I adjust the recline with the tether and it looks perfect. Then DS gets in it and kicks the seat with his feet and it somehow (I have no idea how since the seatbelt is not loosening!) gets all loose and unsafe! It seems to move down into a much more reclined position. I think that it has to do with how the center angles. I get a rock solid install with LATCH on the outside seat. It is almost like where the seatbelt hooks just doesn't hold it in as well. I seriously tried like 15 times until the skin on my hands was raw from tugging at it. I get it super tight, so tight that the lock off is about to pop, but that doesn't seem to hold it.

Are you using a locking seatbelt to install the BV?

Maybe try to not install it so upright. When you place the Carseat on the vehicle seat push that base of it more into the seatbite before you tighten. Do you have the seat in recline mode?
What vehicle model and year is this? The seat needs to be securely installed before attaching the rear-facing tether. So before you do that make sure the seat moves less than an inch side to side at the beltpath.

I can try the not so upright install. Yes, I have it reclined. I can try to put it to not-recline and then push it down in a less upright install.
It was tight before the tether. I really don't know WHAT makes it loosen.
It is a 2007 Toyota Prius.

Are you using any kind of Seat protector? Instead of using the lock offs just use the locking mechanism built into your seatbelt. to do that pull your seatbelt out all the way slowly. Then at the end give it a little tug and the seatbelt will begin to retract back. Some cars make a distinctive "ratcheting" noise.

No seat protector.
I tried using the seat belt mechanism. In order to get the seat tight the entire seat tilted. It would continue to get worse as the seat belt would get tighter over time. I had to take it out weekly and put it back in in fear that DS would fall out!

Wow!
Yeah, that's definitely not good.
Good luck!
