I dont really understand how to install seats using something other than a seatbelt. I keep reading about latchs, teethers...or something like that...im not sure what they are??

I have a cosco scenera and a Graco Comfort Sport Convertible. Are they not installed right with just the seat belts??

If you have your seats installed properly with seatbelts that is fine :) Latch can be used for intalling without using the seatbelt. It is not something you have to use.

A newer vehicles have tether anchors. Your carseat should have tether straps on the top of them. If you read the manuals that came with your carseats as well as your Vechicle owners manual you can learn more about both latch and tethering. SOme carseats require you to have them tethered so defintely read you manals. It will tell you if it is required.

What kind of vehicle do you have year, make and model? I can tell you if you have latch nd tether anchor and where to find them.

Latch and seatbelt installations are equally safe. The best method is whichever is easiest for you to do properly every time. Like Lisa said, your seats may require usage of the top tether ff. Be sure to read your owners manuals. Any vehicle made after 1999 will have tether anchors and many older ones can be retrofitted for minimal cost.

If you aren't using the latch straps, make sure they are secured and/or stowed. You don't want them flying around in a crash.
