View Full Version : Help with Boulevard in 2006 Odyssey
Hi, I have recently turned my son rear-facing again (because of this forum) and am having some trouble finding a place to attach the versa-tether. We have a 2006 Odyssey and he sits behind the driver's seat. I thought I found a place under the seat but I found out it moves when the seat moves forward and backward. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
TIA

Here ya go:

If you scroll down and see the posts from members you will see we discuss tethering to the Driver's side. Basically you can attach to that bar that runs horizontal under the seat, but once attached you may not move the seat. You can either leave the plastic on or take off, it's your choice.
Thanks...that is very helpful.
I would like to be able to move the driver's seat as my husband and I both drive the car and we have a good 10 inches between us! The reason our son is behind the driver's seat is because we have our 5 month old in an infant seat in the "middle" (pushing the other bucket seat over). Should I keep the kids where they are? If so, is there any way to tether AND be able to move the seat? Or, should I switch them so that I can use the versa-tether and be able to adjust the driver's seat forward/backward.
Thanks again.

This is a parental decision you can make. At some point convenience plays a factor. The child in the middle position is going to be safest. The way you have them set up now is the way I would do it, BUT if I had to move my seat constantly like that I would consider switching them around. At some point you will need to anyways, because once the oldest is FF'ing he/she would be must safer in that middle position. That's because the rf'ing child is always the safest in the vehicle.
Your van has side-impact protection built into that side door, as well as side curtain airbags. Your child is safe, but the outboard position does put them closer to that side in the event of a side impact crash. However, if you ever were in such accident it could very well happen on the passenger side. So, again this is a parental decision...
Another thing you could do is put baby in the middle position second row and the oldest in the middle position third row. This may be more inconvenient, but if you feel you must have the oldest in a middle position this could work. However, this will put them closer to the rear of the vehicle in the event of a rear-end, but also further away from the front. The rear end of your vehicle does not have sophisticated crumple zones like the front. Rear-end accidents are rare(4% of accidents), and when they do happen they tend to be at lessened speed than frontal. That's because most times one vehicle is completely stopped and the vehicle rear-ending them has time to prepare and slow down.
WOW! I never knew there is so much to consider about car seat placement. I have a lot to learn!
Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

We have a RF BV tethered behind the driver of an 06 Odyssey. The connector strap is attached to a welded part of the van, the connector itslef does not move but if I move the driver's seat back or forth or change the driver's recline angle, the BV angle will change too from driver's seat itself pushing on the connector. Here are a bunch of pix. Please note if the pic says it's taken from the front (under your legs if you're sitting in the driver's seat), or from the rear (behind the driver). In our van, if driver can indeed move his seat back, he must
1) loosen the BV tether *first*'
2) get the driver seat into position
3) tighten up the BV tether
(Nothing has to be disconnected or re-connected...)

Thanks for the info, broxbourne.
What about having an anchor point professionally installed?
And I know that the Swedish method is preferred, but why? Could I use the Australian method is this situation?
Thanks again.

I have never looked into this but that's a good idea.

Good question, I hope some other techs chime in b/c I am not one ...
We prefer Swedish because it's easier to get the RF baby in and out. I don't think Austr would work in our 06 Odyssey for a RF baby directly behind the driver. The tether anchor point is on the rear base of the captains seat. Some techs said that such a marked change in direction of the tether webbing is a bad idea. (There is no other tethering anchor point for the whole tether webbing to go straight back for Austr method) Even if it were allowed, the webbing would be too much of a pain to overcome each time we insert/remove baby.
