Can someone that has a Radian measure across the bottom front of the car seat? I am looking for a safe seat that will fit in the middle rear spot and both the Marathon and Roundabout intefere with the seat belt latches for the outboard passengers (and I need both : ) ). The Marathon base completely covers them up and the Roundabout covers one.
Help!

My Radian isn't at home right now so I can't measure, but just curious... why can't you use the seatbelt outboard?

It is 14" across the hip area at it's widest point.

I can't use the them in the middle at all because the base covers up the receiving end of their seat belts (where they would buckle themselves).

thanks--unfortunately that won't work either, unless it is smaller where the base of the car seat will meet the back of the seat in the car using rear facing. so hard to explain, I wish there was a store that sold these nearby!

Sorry. I misread your post. I thought you were trying to fit 3 across and the lower anchors for LATCH were covered.
What kind of stalk do the buckles have for the outboard seats? can you sort of move them out of your way when installing a seat in the middle?
Who are you trying to fit in the back and maybe we can help with some suggestions.

I just measured ours where it meets the back/bottom of the vehicle seat and was getting 13 1/2"...? I could be off by a tad so it may still be 14".

Thanks for the help--there aren't any stalks, the ends are just set into the back seat--there's no room for tweaking, unfortunately.
I have a 9 yo and a 7 yo in adult belts (both tall and the seat belts fit fine...but if/when I move the 7 yo to the outboard position, she'll be using a basic booster). The baby is 9 mos, and I'd like her to rf until at least 2 (she's 28+" and 19 lbs. now). We have a Porsche Cayenne and are considering trading in the Cayenne for a BMW, but it's the same problem in both. Narrow middle seats, aaarrrrgggghhh.
I like the Britaxes b/c the rear tether helps me get a rock solid installation. I didn't look at a lot of other options, though, so I'd appreciate any suggestions you guys might have!
Thank you all so much--this forum is awesome!

oh, and I should say interestingly enough, ff the britax is fine. the car seat base doesn't go all the way to back of the seat of the car when it is ff, so it doesn't cover up the seat belt latches.
Maybe I should just get a mini-van :D.

There is a 'foot' used for rearfacing with the radian that sit's about 1/2" inside the bottom of the carseat, but otherwise I don't know.

When installing a Marathon RF for an older child, people often install it more upright (since older child does not need the 45 degree newborn recline angle). The technique for installing it more upright involves placing the base of the carseat a bit forward of the seat bight, and then tightening up the seatbelt (or LATCH) install as usual. Sometimes the backrest of the seat ends up very upright this way. Tethering the seat RF can then bring the seat back down to a comfortable angle for the child (30 degrees is often mentioned as the most upright angle to aim for).
Anyway, the reason I'm mentioning this, is that doing a RF install this way ends up with the base NOT jammed up against the seat bight, but rather a bit forward from it. I'm not sure if it would give you enough clearance to access the seat belts, though. You would have to sort of reach under the portion of the seat that the child is sitting on in any case, but I assume that's what you had to do when you tried it with the Marathon FF, and you say it worked like that.

thanks for the responses...I decided to try refitting the marathon, and have done what singingpond suggested.
When reading the user guide previously, I failed to understand what was meant by using a rolled towel to stabilize the seat. You are supposed to place a rolled towel in the crease of the vehicle seat and when I do that, placing the car seat a little further towards the front of the vehicle, it doesn't cover up the other belt latches. It still gives me a very tight installation, with the rear tether.
Although, now we're discussing having another child! Well, we'll cross that bridge if/when we get there!!
