I was thinking about how many seats people usually go through TOTAL and was wondering what the average person goes through from birth to the seat belt? Also add photo and what seat if you want!

I'm voting 3-6 (so far) for my 3 yo dd

1 safety first intera
1 cosco summit
1 regent
1 evenfo titan (barely used b/c i hated it)

this is what we have used so far:
snugride, old 20lbs 26" version- outgrown at about 3-4m by 1" rule
designer22- outgrown about 8-9m by 1" rule
marathon- outgrown in my car, but not my sister's by top slots
husky- currently in use, 2nd from top slots
regent- currently in use, second from top slots
laptop- current spare
he will go into a booster when he outgrows his current seats, so add 2 more to that.

Depends which child.
DS1 is currently on his 5th carseat and this does not include ones I bought and had to return due to not fitting in our vehicle. It also does not include doubles of the same seat because we have one for each vehicle. He keeps outgrowing seats by height long before weight.
He's been in...
Evenflo On My Way Position Right V
Evenflo Triumph
Evenflo Chase
Britax Marathon
Sunshine Kids Radian
He's outgrown every single one of those by height with the exception of the Radian... that's his current seat and when he outgrows it, he will go into our Parkway. So that is six seats for him.
DS2 I got smarter with... he's been in...
Graco Snugride (20lb, 26" model)
Britax Marathon
He will most likely need to go into the Radian as well after outgrowing the Marathon in height, but we have a long ways to go before that happens, he's still RFing! So counting a booster, that will be 4 seats for him.
I'll be even smarter when our third shows up!
Our third will go in...
either a Graco SS1 OR Chicco Keyfit30
then into a Radian when they outgrow their infant seat.
Counting a booster, that will be 3 seats for #3. See, I got better! :D

I was trying to figure this out yesterday. Best I can remember:
For 7yo DD: Century SmartFit 5pt infant seat, RA, FPSE, Husky, PW, Apex 65
For 4yoDD: Graco SnugRide, WZ, MA, Evenflo Titan 5, Scenera
For 2yoDS: Companion, BV, Scenera
Some of these seats were spares for grandma's and dh's cars. I'm getting ready to add a Radian (maybe 2, depending on what happens w/the Regent fiasco- I can't use it w/the SBP and recline bar in my van and don't have room for it LATCH) and a Recaro booster (either Young Style or Vivo) for dh's car.

I'm not sure how to answer -- you mean.... 1) "how many seats at one time in various vehicles?" or 2) "how many seats total throughout her life?" :o
1 = four seats :whistle:
2 = maybe two or three dozen

For dd1:
Century Infant seat (one of earliest 22#)
RA (MA didn't exist yet!)
Graco Cargo (trying to avoid buying the MA because of cost)
MA (Cargo gave dd1 bruises on her back. Used Cargo for spare until outgrown by weight)
Regent
Bodyguard
For dd2: (most of these were passed down from dd1)
Graco infant seat (20lb limit, borrowed to fit on Graco duoglider)
Century infant seat
RA
Cargo (spare for dh's vehicle)
MA
TB (spare for dh's vehicle after outgrew Cargo by weight)
The list will be be longer, though. I am going to be getting dd2 a Recaro (I think) next! And I will be getting new seats for the baby  (I already have a new RA I'm saving for it :o )

Britax Boulevard
Thats so far and DS is only 2.5 so I didn't vote...

3 for my car:
Evenflo Discovery infant
Evenflo Titan convertible
Britax Regent
1 for husband's truck:
Cosco high back combo seat

My son is 28 months, 6 seats total. All still in use in various cars except of course the infant seat and (1) Scenara. We didn't need it (Scenara) anymore after buying the Regent so I sold it.
(1) Graco Snug Ride Infant seat
(3) Cosco Scenaras
(1) Britax Marathon

One child, two cars.
We started off with a Snugride in my car and a AO (I didn't know any better!) in husband's. Moved to a Roundabout in mine and we kept the AO in husband's. Replaced the AO with a Fisher-Price Safe Embrace because I hated the AO (I was learning!). Had an unexpected cash surplus so upgraded to a Marathon for my car and Husky for husband's. Replaced the Husky with a Radian65 because the Husky was too tall and we wanted the Radian for travel.
So seven total. I expect we may have to replace the Marathon with a Radian or Recaro (leaning towards Radian) before we move to boosters.

23 yo DD had 6 different car seats
10 yo DD has had 8 so far
8 1/2 yo DD has had 7 so far
7 yo DS has had 5 so far
Some of these were handed down to next child (not the ones from oldest DD of course). We also have two car and always had seats in each car.

For my 5 yr old:
1 SR
1 FP Safe Embrace
3 Triumphs (2 for our cars, 1 for grandma's car)
1 BV
1 Radian
And we're not done yet. There will be a bigger harnessing seat, probably the Regent unless something new comes out in the next 1 - 1 1/2 yrs, then a booster seat, and then finally a seat belt.
For my 4 yr old:
1 SR
1 Triumph
1 Intera
1 Signo
1 Marathon for Grandma's car (she shares it her little bro)
For my 2 1/2 yr old:
1 SR (the same one that the 4 yr old used)
1 Triumph
1 Wizard
1 Marathon for Grandma's car

Bean the Second: Graco Snugride, Britax Boulevard, Radian65
Bean the Third: Graco SafeSeat I

So six per kid and 1 they shared.

1-3 for all of them.
DD1 has gone from Graco SnugRide > Britax Marathon > Britax Regent
DD2 has gone form Graco SnugRIde > Britax Marathon
DD3 has gone from Graco SnugRide > Britax Marathon
I have 2 Marathons and a Regent in my car. DH has a Marathon and Regent in his. We pop the Snugride in there when/if we need to, as DD3 is *just* under the height limit and below the weight limit.

DD is our one and only - and will forever be.
She has had:
Snugride (has been given to a dear friend)
Evenflo Titan (recommended to us by a local tech because we couldn't get the Snugride in our 94 Saturn Coupe - low harness slots)
Britax Marathon at 6 mos
Graco Harnessed Booster (Platinum??) returned to store because I then learned about ERF
2nd Britax Marathon because I convinced DH that DD needed to be equally safe in both cars
So, basically 5 - only 3 are in our possession right now. The Titan either sits in a closet or is a backup seat for when I pick up a friend's DD from daycare.

Okay where is the option for more then 18?
We are now currently at 19
2- Graco Snugrides
4- Graco CarGo Platinums (2 w/ nonEPS foam & 2 w/EPS foam)
2- Graco Turbo Booster
2- Cosco Alpha Omega's (1- AO & 1-EB 3n1)
2- Britax Roundabouts
3- Britax Marathons
2- Britax Regents
2- Britax Parkways
And, It there will be atleast 2 more HWH seats for when Kinlee outgrows her MA. Then we will have to buy new booster down the road too when they outgrow the Regents as I know the PW will be expired by then. So, I am looking at least 6 more seats in the next 4+yrs.
I still can't believe I have had 19 seats in 6yrs. That is 9.5 seats per child. LOL!!! But, I know Julie will post soon and I won't feel as bad as I know her numbers will for sure trump mine. LOL!

DS is 3 yrs old and he's had:
1-Snugride
1-Graco Comfortsport
3-Evenflo Triumphs (2 sold, 1 in an accident)
1-Britax Decathlon (replaced by Britax for harness adjustor)
1-Britax Marathon (replacement for Decathlon)
1-Cosco High back booster (fire dept gave to us after a wreck)
1-Britax Regent (replaced Triumph that was in an accident)
So that makes 9. I really didn't think it was that many. In my defense I only own 2 seats now. The Regent is in my car and the Marathon is in my mom's.

Britax Roundabout (wrecked. No pictures in that seat)
Combi Victoria (in garage. This is the only picture I have of him in it. Just before I buckled him up for a camping trip. He's 9 months old here and about 16 pounds. The one thing I LOVED about that seat was the harness covers. When they are small, the chest clip goes in the middle of the harness covers. When they get bigger, you move the chest clip to below the harness covers...you can't take them off without rethreading the harness, but they were really comfy for him. Notice how short the seat shell is. He still does have the infant insert here, when he was sitting on top of, but still...)

This is my first baby and I already have become a car seat freak :) DH doesn't get fazed anymore with my habits ... I have :
2 Graco Snugrides - 1 laura ashley canterbury (shower gift, too girly for DS)
so I bought the metropolitan.
1 Graco Comfortsport in Aero Print - installed in DH Scion tC right now
1 Graco SS1 in Fusion and I bought an extra Ionic cover
1 Britax DC in Onyx but I changed the cover to the Odyssey print just
installed in my '07 Honda CRV
1 Recaro Signo in Cobalt that is pre-ordered right now to replace the
comfortsport
So 5 seats (with 1 on the way) and DS is only 6 months!!

I'm not sure my poor brain can handle the overload but here goes...
DD11yo
1.came home in a century 3500STE that did not fit rfing in a Geo Metro by a long shot.
2. Evenflo joy ride (outgrew by weight and height)
3. back into the STE 3500 ffing at 9 months
4. took CPS course and switched her to an Evenflo Ultera 5 pt at 2 years. (outgrew by height at 3 yrs)
5. Century Next Step w/harness in GP's car (outgrew by weight at 5 years)
6. Cosco High Back Booster w/harness in Geo (outgrew by height 3.5 yrs, but was the only thing that fit on the market at the time)
7. Cosco High Back as booster for about 2 months, not a good booster kid yet.
8. Graco 2 in 1 w/harness in Geo (outgrew by weight at 5yrs)
9. Combos mentioned above used as boosters in various cars for a couple of months. Still not a good booster kid.
10. Fisher Price 20/60
11. Fisher Price 20/60 (outgrew by height at 6.5 yrs)
12. various boosters mentioned above. Now a pretty good booster kid.
13. Husky after a bad crash that kills the Graco 2 in 1 and scares me silly.
(and provided a good excuse to go play carseats with Jules)
14. Another crash kills the Century Next Step, so I buy a Graco TB for GP's car.
15. Britax BG (2 of them, just because I can, lol)crashed 1 within the year
16. Another Husky after storing the 1st one in the garage (mice ate through the harness and adjuster strap and cover) since the crash that killed the BG also killed the car that the Husky was used for. (anybody happen to have a harness, cover and adjuster strap they would like to sell?)
17. 86-y harness
18.Evenflo Confidence
19. Century Breverra T shield was used in there somewhere (my boss bought it for her car, because I took her car all the time, and she didn't want me to have to move the carseat all the time.)
DS7yrs:
1. Graco Snug Ride (outgrown by height at 13 months)
2. Britax RA rfing from around 6 months (outgrown by height at 2 yrs, 21lbs)
3. Britax RA ffing in alternate car (outgrown by height at 5 yrs)
4. Britax Elite rfing in main car (expired before outgrown, at 25 months)
5. Century Next Step in GP's car (crashed before outgrown)handed down from DD11yrs
6. Fisher Price Futura from 25 to 30 months (one broke, the other was gifted away to someone who needed it more)handed down from DD11yrs
7. Marathon back rfing at 30 months (outgrown by weight at 4yrs, 3 months)
8. Graco TB for school carpools from 4 yrs 3 months (not the same one as DD11yrs)
9. Laptop (because I could)
10.Husky handed down from DD11yrs
11. Evenflo Confidence shared with DD's
12. Cosco no back and Evenflo Right Fit as reserve for 3 in a rows
DD5yrs:
1. Graco Snug Ride (not the same one as DS, we thought he was the last baby;) ) (outgrown by height at 14 months)
2. Britax RA rfing from around 6 months(outgrown by height at 22 months)
3. Traded RA for MA with DS. Put DD in MA rfing and DS in RA ffing.
4. Crash that killed the BG also killed the RA. Gave DS the MA ffing and bought a Cosco Intera for DD. She used the Intera RFing until outgrowing it by weight at 3 yrs 4 months. Used it FFing until outgrown by weight at 4 yrs.
5. MA ( this makes 2 of them ) ffing, About a half inch until outgrown by height 7 lbs until outgrown by weight.
6. Radian 80, just bought it, she hasn't even ridden in it yet. She has about 2 inches by height, and I'm comfortable with her shoulders being above. DS also is about a half inch below to slots.
7. laptop when needed.
8. Various boosters as needed.
Oh and I also had a Fisher Price Safe Embrace Infant that I used for both of the youngest two kids as backup once they outgrew the Snugrides. Both children fit it until close to two yrs.
I think that is a total of 27 seats bought for just my 3 kids. I won't even attempt the seats I've bought for other people.
We have an odd family in that kids go with many different people a week, so we need lots of carseats to take different combinations of children. There are 13 children in my family between myself, my cousins kids, and my neices and nephews, that get hauled around on a regular basis. (although I don't send my kids with my cousin ever because she smokes around the kids)
I've also had 200 rightfits that I gave out for Ford's boost america program, and a couple dozen other seats for give aways at any given time.( I'm down to 3 at the moment though)

My DD is 7.5 months and I am on a roll with a ton of seats already.
Combi Centre DX with 2 bases - for 4 months, we took her out when my back couldn't take the infant bucket anymore. She hated it anyway.
Roundabout in Jefferson Tan - Used for 2 months, base got stuck in recline posistion and the seat shell went back to Britax and the cover went on Ebay
Roundabout in Denim - Currently in use in DH's car
Marathon in Ashley Floral - Currently in use in my car
Cosco Scenera - Used in my moms car, she is our primary babysitter.
Graco ComfortSport - A hand me down from SIL after my niece outgrew it. In my MIL's car who is the secondary babysitter.
I am currently thinking about getting another Senera for a spare, just so we NEVER have to move out RA and MA, but my DH is fighting me on it.

The girls are 3 yrs old and they currently have had a total of 9 carseats
2 Snugrides until about 10-11mths
2 AOEs in their dad's truck--still using
1 AOE in their mom's car-still using
1 AOE in my van--J uses it
1 Bolero in my van--K uses it
1 Traditions in my van--K used it for 2 wks and than I bought the Bolero instead
1 AOE in my van--K used it before I bought the Traditions
I also am picking up an AOE tomorrow that is a replacement for my AOE but I am going to sell it and buy a Radian (I think) instead for J.
So Jenna has had 3 seats and Kelsey has had 5 seats plus the one in their mom's is used for both. Oh yah and I have built ins that they use on occasion.

Hmmm....
DS#1 (almost 6 y.o.):
-- AO (never used an infant seat with this child)
-- Wizard (after discovering we had used the 'bad' top harness position on the AO for almost 2 months  )
-- Parkway
DS#2 (2 1/2 y.o.):
-- Snugride
-- AO
-- Radian
DD (3 1/2 m.o.)
-- Snugride
So, no huge totals so far, but we're about to need a major seat reshuffle, as DD grows out of the Snugride, and DS#1 is right at the top position in the Wizard.

Oops, I should have read your questions before posting, although my vote is still the same, I think?
I have 4 seats for DS at a time, one each in my car, DH's car, and for each set of grandparents.
However, counting seat types:
DS (2 1/2 y.o.):
-- infant carrier - Century Celestia

I have a no kids but the seats i have are:
Safeseat 1
Britax MA
Britax BV
2 Radain65
Parkway
Ok now the kids that use them are my 5 year old godson in the radian, 3 year old godson in the BV, 19 month old goddaughter in the MA. Than at different times. The boys i watch are 19 months and in the BV and MA. Than my friends son is 2 and when he is in my car he is in the BV. Also my next godchild will be born in Nov. he/she will use the Safeseat.
I do not use one radain and the parkway. My godson does not sit still in the parkway yet. So i am not sure how many seats per kid. I guess not even one because they share them.

We have had 6:
Graco Snug Ride
Evenflo Triumph
Eddie Bauer Deluxe Combo Booster thingy
Eddie Bauer Combo Booster
Britax Marathon
Britax Regent
Actually, now that I think of it, it was 7....we had another infant seat that we very rarely used.
Oh...and I will be buying some sort of other carseat in the next week or so probably to replace our Regent. And possibly may be pre-ordering a Signo.

I'm not sure how to answer -- you mean.... 1) "how many seats at one time in various vehicles?" or 2) "how many seats total throughout her life?" :o
I was confused by this too, and thus "misvoted" on the poll. I didn't read the OP before voting. My vote is wrong. :o
I voted based on what I will use for my nieces and nephews
AT ONE TIME-- One to three per child
FROM BIRTH TO SEATBELT-- it will probably be four or five per child?

Mine vary.
Aaric - evenflo infant seat, Evenflo Medallions - 1 for each car, Cosco Ventura (I think? That tan combo one), Cosco Protek booster, Husky, Parkway. So he's been in 7 different ones so far.
Mikayla - The same 2 Evenflo Medallions, the same Cosco Ventura, Marathon, Husky, the same Parkway. So she's been in 6 so far.
Xander - Graco Safeseat 1, Same Marathon. 2 so far.
Total seats owned - 10

Emily
1 Snugride
3 Marathons (Mom, Dad, Nana)
(Debating whether she'll go to a HWH seat or a booster when her MAs expire in fall 2009--she'll be 6y3m)
Zachary
Borrowed my cousin's Snugride
2 Roundabouts (Dad, Nana)
1 Marathon (Mom)
MIL bought a MA for her car, which she uses for my nephew now. She also just bought 2 Blvds. thinking my 6-year-old niece would still fit in it (she's even with the top harness setting...). She's thinking about giving us one of the Blvds. and getting an Apex for niece #1. I'm hoping! That would replace one of the Roundabouts when Zach outgrows it, which would be awesome.

we haven't made it to the true seatbelt stage yet, but FWIW we have one child, and have only one seat at a time, no spares. total, so far, of three seats, child is currently 3.5 years old.
first seat was the pioneered II infant seat (no longer on the market, it was designed to be used in the front seat with an airbag). used that till she outgrew by weight at 20 lbs.
next seat was the evenflo triumph convertible, used that till she outgrew by weight at 40 lbs.
now we have the regent. i'm hoping that by the time she outgrows this seat, laws and CS development will have advanced enough that there will be some new and remarkable device that will keep her harnessed forever, or at least until i no longer can overrule her. :D

Dd has had 9 -- that includes one that was in a crash, and the one it was replaced with., she is 6.5 years old.
3-point infant seat
Cosco AO OHS in my car & a crappy evenflo in dh's car
Then I started really learning and she had
A Marathon and a Husky (replaced with Regent after a crash)
A turbo booster & Evenflo Big Kid (which is the only booster that we tried that fit well in my mom's and dh's cars).
Laptop for travel
Ds has had 2 handed down from dd which was in a crash, along with 4 that have been just for him, so 6 -- but he is two!
5 point infant seat
Britax Boulevard, which I ended up selling because I needed the $$$ and moved him to dd's Marathon which was in dh's car, we were in a crash and replaced it with a Decathlon which he is still in now, he was in a Laptop in dh's car, but I got him a Scenera that he is in now.

#1 ~ Cosco Eddie Bauer infant seat, RA, MA, Regent
#2 ~ Graco Snugride, (#1's) RA, MA
#3 ~ (#2's) old Snug ride, (#2's) RA, (#1's) MA    Poor kid has never had a "new" seat. Oh, well, he has the cool blue fido cover and I did order brand spankin' new harnesses every time I handed down a seat.
Hmmm...hard to do with multiple kiddos.
dd had 4, ds1 had 2 and ds2 had 0!
I don't know what to check. Or is it multiple choice?

For my eldest:
1-SnugRide
2 - Marathons
2 - Apex 65
1 - Regent
1 - Compass B510
2 - Parkways
For my youngest:
We reused the SnugRide
We reused both Marathons-->one was in a crash and it was replaced w/a
Boulevard
I have a SafeRide Travel Vest, but haven't used it; and I have the C.A.R.E.S for flying, if that counts.
