Is there a size limit on siggy pictures? Some of them are just so HUGE that they overwhelm the page.
If there isn't a size limit, can we make one? I've seen one in particular that is just so big it takes up the entire screen (and I don't have a small screen) and it's hard to find any of the other posts..
Thanks!!!

There is a limit, but I don't remember what it is. 300 pixels I think.

I agree.. Maybe that is why that particular siggy is so freakishly huge. It drives me nuts.. As much I love seeings kids' faces, I don't want htem that big every time.. LOL

Also, there are some new guidelines about the size of member signatures that appear at the end of your posts. Please limit any images and tickers in your signature to a reasonable size, especially if you use multiple images. Please limit the combined height of all your photos, tickers and images to 240 pixels tall as an absolute maximum. The combined width should be no more than 640 pixels wide. The combined file size should be no more than 100kb. We don't want our forum threads to be cluttered like they are on some other websites, with the large majority of a thead being comprised of signatures and advertisements with little actual content. Please feel free to personalize your posts within reason, but the shorter you can make your signature including all text and images, the better. Individual users can turn off Avatars, Signatures and Images if they prefer uncluttered, text-only forum reading. To do this, go to the User CP control panel and choose the Edit Options link on the left side. These options can be disabled in the Thread Display Options section.
That means signatures should not be any taller than a 240 pixel high photo, including any text. If you have photo that is that height, any text should ideally be off to the side rather than above or below it.

So, basically if someone has a siggy pic. that is the signature, then they're fine and we have to stare at huge pictures b/c of it.. Okay..... I'll try to avoid that particular person then.. Thanks....

It would be nice if people would voluntarily adhere to the guidelines. I generally only PM people who are clearly way over the limit.
For example, yours and Jenny's are somewhat over the height guideline. Tiffany and CRS are within the guidelines. Just using examples from this thread. As the link I quoted mentions, you can turn off all signatures in your control panel to avoid them completely.
If you see one that is obviously well beyond the limit, just use the report post feature or send me PM. All reports will be kept anonymous;-)

You can choose to have signatures not show. This is what I do, and it makes me happy. lol
(I didn't know about this feature until I had it pointed out by...Admin. lol)

HEY, I worked hard to make mine fit.. What do you mean it's over the height guidelines???? I'll try it again though.....
And I like seeing peoples siggies, just not giant pictures w/giant faces staring at me.

The idea is that if you stack things like text and photos, the total combined height should not be more than a single 240 pixel tall photo. So, if you have multiple images or text, try to put them side by side if they would otherwise go over the limit. Neither yours nor Jennys was that much over the limit, so it wasn't an issue. Otherwise you'd have gotten an angry PM from Admin;-)

On another board that I moderate, we have a board mod that allows you to see a poster's first sig, but in subsequent posts by the same user the sig is removed. It really cuts down on thread clutter, but still allows folks to show off their sigs.

Yeah, the board I mod does it this way as well. :) I like it. I enjoy looking at signatures but you really only need to see it once per page.

I would prefer simply sending the person a PM and/or email asking them to fix the problem -- if, within so many days, it doesn't get done, then I think removing it would be fine....

I've posted on boards like Wineaux, too--where the person's signature only shows up once per page. In some ways I like it, but it makes it a little harder for me to quickly see who's post I am reading; I guess I am a very visual person and seeing that familiar picture or set of words and colors connects with my brain a little quicker and better than reading the poster's username. :p I'd prefer, if we can, to keep sigs in each post, but enforce the size limits more.

In the mean time, please make sure your own signatures are within the guidelines and feel free to report other users whose signatures are clearly over the guidelines.
Thank you!

Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but how do you measure how many pixels high a signature is?

Right click on the photo(s). Then click "Properties". Your two photos combined measure 311 wide by 204 high. Together with the text above and below, that makes your signature right around the limit. Anything taller is clearly above the limit.
