My 5 yo ds is in a bpb currently in one of the captain's chairs in my 2005 ford freestar.

We will have a new addition in December and I'm trying to decide the car seat positions now.

My 21 month 35lb ds is in the other captain's chair in a marathon. I plan on leaving him there if I can and the new baby in the other captain's chair.

My question is the back seat has a latch in the middle, but also in the middle the seat belt is installed from the ceiling. Is it ok for the bpb to be installed right there or would it be better to put the marathon there?

TIA

As long as the shoulder belt moves freely through the belt guide, it would be better to have the bpb child in the middle, since he is the least protected child. However, if the ceiling mount on the shoulderbelt causes it to bind or not slide freely, or just behave weirdly in general, you'll need to put the MA there and leave him in the captain's chair, or move him outboard in the third row if the belt there works better with the booster.

What specific carseat name is your BPB? What is your 5 year old's weight? "BPB" implies that he's secured with the vehicle seatbelt -- a booster does not get installed per se ... it just sits loosely on the vehicle seat (except in rare circumstances: always refer to the manual)

Either way, the center of the 3rd row is a very safe location :) This is the position I prefer my oldest kid to ride in & I find that it helps to teach kiddo to engage the switchable retractor to help ensure kiddo maintains proper positioning so that you can focus on the road ;)

The bpb is a Graco and it is only secured with his weight and the seat belt. He fluctuates between 45-50lbs.

I will try and put it in the middle as long as it works ok.

Thanks a lot!
