Ok, I think they screwed up changing the manuals. Careless editing I think.

1. My new manual says to not use LATCH (well, UAS actually) "for a child over 65 lb". Didn't that used to be (and should be) 48 lb??? OOPS! I called Russ and left him a message... will do an email later on.

2. Was the max Canadian height always 51 inches? I thought it was 47 or 49 inches? It shows 51 inches in mine.

3. AND, the Forward Facing Lap Belt Installation ends with "3. Kneel on restraint to force it into vehicle seat while pulling shoulder portion of seat belt to remove slack and tighten lap portion of the belt." Followed by "Confirm LATCH belt is tight and that connections to approved LATCH anchorss are secure. Removal: Press red release button on back of each LATCH connector..." (on page 25) (note use of LATCH vs UAS - copy and paste??)

OOps, that won't be good for SKJP. There'll be a safety notice issued by transport canada pretty quick if there's obvious errors like that... maybe you just got one of the first instruction manuals and the error has since been corrected? It could really hit them hard if they have a safety notice regarding the manual and then the recall of the safestop close together... unrelated, but stilll... won't look good overall to the average person.

They must've hurried too much with getting the 65lb manuals/stickers out for CA seats. I don't have one myself to compare, but it'll be interesting to see what others say.

I didn't think to check the French version. I will later!

I emailed Russ - my email and his response below (and he got back to me within about 3 hours!):
Hi Russ,

I am not sure if this information should be directed at you, but I had emailed the Canadian distributor with a general question before and never received an answer, while I hear that you are good about dealing with issues brought up by customers.

I just received 2 Radians from babyproofingplus.com last week. They were both re-stickered for 65 lbs - YAY! - and had very current DOM (unlike the 9-month old seat I purchased and returned at Canadian Tire).

However, I noticed a couple of errors in the English version of the manual (i didn't check the French version). I called and left you a message about the first one but I thought I would email you all the things I noticed:

1. My new manual says to not use UAS "for a child over 65 lb". Didn't that used to be (and should be) 48 lb???

2. Was the max Canadian height always 51 inches? I thought it was 47 or 49 inches? (It says 49 on the Canadian Tire website, but they are often wrong.) The new manual shows 51 inches max FF height.

3. The Forward Facing Lap Belt Installation ends with "3. Kneel on restraint to force it into vehicle seat while pulling shoulder portion of seat belt to remove slack and tighten lap portion of the belt." Followed by "Confirm LATCH belt is tight and that connections to approved LATCH anchorss are secure. Removal: Press red release button on back of each LATCH connector..." (on page 25) (note use of LATCH vs UAS - error while doing copy and paste from US version manuals??)

I hope this helps in case noone else has brought it to your attention, and that it will be resolved soon.

Thank you for your email.

1) I will re-confirm, but I think with the rule change, Canada is allowing UAS to 65 lbs – but I will re-confirm this is not a type error.

2) Very observant! We changed it to 51 inches

3) I will definitely check into that. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

So how do you like your seat?

USA version has:

48 lbs limit for Latch

51" limit for height (which I would make a parental decision to disregard IF child happened to still fit by weight and torso height)

Has same error about shoulder belt in the Lap Belt section.

This was discussed in my training course today, and apparently the process is in the works for testing LATCH anchors to 65lbs. So we were told to be mindful of the LATCH limits, but that this was likely to change in the near future. So based on the information we were given, it sounds like the manual was re-written with this in mind.

Yay for the official increase in height on the seat. Remember that it's fit of the child in the seat that is what matters and that the child's height is a guideline since all kids are proportioned differently. It's nice to see them raise the height limit though.
