Yippee! Hopefully this will speed up your potty training  You'll have to let us know how you like them! Good that your DH is in on it too
$140 isn't that bad; it is roughly 3months worth of disposables for 1 child!?

YAY - now try not to get addicted.
Glad your dh is excited too.. mine was all "we'll see how long this lasts" After the first few months it turned into - how many diapers do we really need. :ROTFLMAO:
woo hoo..!

HAHA, that was my dh too. He just started using all the fb's and we eventually moved to all pockets for quite awhile. Then I got tired of stuffing and we moved to AIO's for day and pockets for naps and night. And just when he was starting to get those brands figured out, ds came on the scene and we've used a mix of prefolds, fitteds and AIO's on him. :p
Should I say I'm thinking of mixing up ds's stash? I haven't bought any diapers in awhile and I'm getting the itch. Dh says he's not even phased anymore when diapers come in the mail - he calls it my hobby. :o
eta: We switched dd to cloth when she was 8mos old.

Yay! Cloth diapering is so fun. :)
We haven't been doing cloth for a couple weeks now and I miss it but it just doesn't make sense to keep doing it just nights and weekends. :(
Cool!
We switched when #2 was right about 1yr. He was completely out of them by 16 months though LOL Early potty trainer ;)
So, #3 was the first to use them from day one, #4 and #5 have followed suit. Other than those first few months of pregnancy...I'm too blech to handle them and the work load. It's not that much, but when you're so stinkin' sick you do well to get yourself to the bathroom...
We're currently in disposables at night as I do not have a good night time set up for Dude.
"We're" hehe of course, you know I just mean the kid ;)
Anyway, big congrats on going cloth. And yes, be careful, it's sooooooooo addicting in the beginning. I've gotten over that part, but, it is easy to fall back into it, all it takes is ONE diaper discussion LOL Or ONE visit to a sale/swap board heh heh

My DS is almost 8 months and I just ordered a sampler pack of cd's so I could try out the different types. I'm anxious to see how you like them. I think it will be a bit of an adjustment (especially for DH) but will be good in the end. I also hope they will allow us to potty train a little sooner. I gues we'll see...:)
Good luck to you!

Congrats on the switch :) Weve been doing cloth since ds was 2.5 mo (he's 16 mo now) and i couldnt go back.. I really like Fuzzi Bunz, but lately have been digging the Haute Pockets One-Size Snap diapers because I can use them on both my 16 mo ds and 5 mo dd. Warning.. it is very addictive and non cding friends just wont understand the obsession, lol.

Yippee!!!! I didnt' know you were thinking about switching! :) yeah! I switched about two months ago and i really like it. You will LOVE the BumGenius! I wish i had more than i do! I haven't had one leak yet! not even at night! we also do prefolds, and i have a thirsties cover for that. I am going to try the bummis one...it's in the mail. yes...after i had decided on which carseats to go with (that was my obsession at the time), I have relaxed...and gone on to a new hobby! ;) cloth! :) we just started with DS at 3 1/2 (who actually went potty on the potty today!!! and one accident in his underwear) and DD at 15 months. I seem to love the cloth diaper threads now on the forum! :) anyway....good for you! i hope you enjoy it!

Thanks Everyone!!
Well, you guys are the ones you made me do it!! Starlight was like "You ARE going to do this!!" LOL!!
I am so excited to get them in the mail.
Tonight is the night we go to Walmart to get our Sposies. After dinner Dh was like, "Ok, let's go to the dreaded Wally World..." I said, "NOPE, not tonight, not ever" "NO MORE SPOSIES!!!" LOL!!
So, I haven't actually hit that obsession stage yet. I can't imagine getting obsessed with CD'ing, but if you ladies say I will, then I probably will LOL!
I need some good CD'ing Forums links please :D
Thanks, Melissa

Ok, we received our first ever Cloth Diapers Today in the mail!! Here are some pix of the kids in them. Do they look like they are on right? I lifted their shirts so you could see the diapers better.
I have more questions too! Dh, the kids, and I are all going out tonight to eat for my birthday. Should I bring Disposables, or Cloth? If I bring cloth what do I put them in after they are soiled?

And finally, one of them together! Pardon the funny looks on their faces. I had to make a weird noise so they would both look at the camera LOL

Looks good to me, although I'd do the waist snaps a bit tighter on ds. For outings, you can just use a plastic bag for now. If you have a gym stuff sack or something, you can use that too... pretty much whatever you want - and if they're not poopy you can always just roll it and stuff it in the diaper bag that way. I have actual wet bags for the diaper bag, but I often recycle grocery bags too.
I think you'll find once you use them for a bit you'll not want to put your kids in dispoables. After using cloth for awhile, disposable seem to absolutely reek. Plus there's just something so cute about the fluffy bum.

Thanks Trudy!! :D
Oh, and when they are soiled and I go to put them in the dry pail do I take the inserts out then, or later right before I put them in the wash?

You'll eventually want a 'wet bag' to put your dirties in when you are out and about. Till then, you can bring some zip lock baggies to put them in. And just to be safe...I'd change every hour or so while you are out. It never fails...I can go 2hrs at home with no leaks, but if we are out...I can get leaks in just over an hour. I think it's cause they are sitting on their butts more when they are out, so you get what's called compression leaks.
I've never used FBs, so not sure if they are on right or not! I think you could go one snap tighter on your ds waist.

I take my inserts out when I put them in the diaper pail. Some don't and just let them come out in the wash, but in my reading about CDs, I read something about not keeping wet FB with wet inserts (maybe in my GMD CD guide thing? can't remember). I have a rectangular-shaped diaper pail, so I just kind of let the inserts fold over onto themselves on one side and I lay the folded-in-half FB in a stack on the other side. It's worked well so far. I have some BG one-sizes and a few other various pockets and the one thing I can't stand about my BG is the flap in the back. If it's a poopy diaper, that is just yuck yuck yucky to get the insert out of. I've never tried just throwing it in the wash to see if it comes out on its own, but blech. With the other pockets, that's not nearly as much of a big deal.
Oh, and as far as getting addicted to CDs? You probably will - really. It's hard for other people to imagine us being addicted to carseats, but we are, so just be prepared :D. I don't have a newborn and I'm certainly not even pg and yet it occurred to me that I have no newborn diapers, just smalls. So I was looking at newborn fitteds and covers - for a newborn I don't even have! LOL (Ds3 is 7.5 mos).
ETA that I just take 1 or 2 plastic grocery bags with me in the diaper bag and take care of the diapers when I get home.

Ok this is so funny!! My first diaper change was a runny poop from DS LOL!!
It was ok though. The Material is AMAZING!! It didn't leak or anything. He took a nap in them, and I didn't realized just how much he had peed. That insert weighed a TON!
The only thing I don't like is they are puffier then I thought they would be. But the good thing is DS's pants fit him better now LOL!!
More questions please!!
What kind of dry pail should i get? Do I want one with a lid?
And, how in the world are these diapers going to fit in my diaper bag?? They are so HUGE LOL!
Tonight my 18year old sister and her friend are watching the kids for us for my birthday. I told her over the phone I am all CD'ers now and she is freaking out on how she is going to change them LOL!
I think she is picturing the old style burp cloths with these Gigantor Pins! She would just die if she had to pin them!

I had one with a lid to keep the smell away and little hands out of it! I just had the $5 diaper pail from Walmart, it seemed to do the trick!

I just bought a garbage pail with a lid from wal-mart. And yep, fuzzi bunz (fb's) will do better at holding in explosive poop than any old disposable diaper ever could.
We used fitteds with ds at present, dd was in fb's for over a year.. she could go 12 hrs at night without leaking and her bum would still feel dry. No worries about compression leaking.. in fact I trust my cloth diapers more than a disposable.
I always took the inserts out when I changed the diaper. Some wait until wash day, but I just prefer to do it when the diaper is still in my hands. ;)
I've actually been thinking of getting some fb's for ds now that he's older since I know he'd be in mediums for a long time... but I'm still thinking about that - so many other diapers I want to try and I'm just getting in to wool.

A far as taking them with you... (coming from the mom that was only going to use cloth at home. Now I'm contemplating how to use them on vacation!)
I usually take one or two FBs with me depending on how long I will be out. I usually keep one sposie in my bag just in case of lots of poopies etc.
I know a lot of cloth moms have to change more often, but other than the bi-weekly poopy diaper I usually change DS every 3 hrs. He sleeps 8 hrs+ at night with no change and just a little extra stuffing. The sposies leak at night after 4 hrs!

We took ours camping over a 4 day weekend when dd was a year old. ;) Mind you I had about a double stash from trying different kinds, so I didn't have to do laundry, but we would've used a laundromat if need be. ;)

Joy, when we took our trip at the end of March, I took my diapers with me and used them while I was at my friend's house. After we left there, I used g-diaper inserts IN my FB and washed the FB in the hotel bathtub. I used regular night-time stuffers, though. Be very, very thankful for your washer's spin cycle :p , because it gets out a LOT more water than me wringing them with my hands ever could. If your ds doesn't have problems with disposables, then you could do what I planned on originally, which was to use a g-diaper insert laid on the fleece of the FB, rather than in it. Then the FB is more like a cover and you only have to wash a couple of them.

Thanks Brooke! Unfortuntely, Dh does not want to spend anymore money on cloth diapering then we need to.
Right now in DS's room I just have to plastic trash sacks hanging from his Changing Table on a hanger. One bag gets the Inserts and the other bag get's the covers. It seems to be working fine. No stinky smells yet LOL
Or, I just put the poopy diaper on top of my washing machine cover in the basement.

I just used a trashbag as a diaper pail liner and hosed it off, then when it got kinda icky and no longer hosing it off was good enough Id fill it with trash and throw it away lol!! no waste and no expensive liner.
