Sounds like Fifth Disease. We just got over it last week. At this point she in no longer contagious. But, If she has been around anyone that is pg please let them know so they can get tested.

This is when DD2 had serologically confirmed Fifth Disease (Parvovirus). She was having her 12 month iron check anyway and we'd been around my pregnant sister so I wanted it confirmed so I didn't have to call my sister and make her worry if I didn't have to. My sister's baby ended up fine thank goodness, my sister was already immune.

As the others said...that definitely sounds like Fifth Disease.
Has she been around anyone with Fifth's?

Ditto fifth disease. Ours was confirmed too. Jackson got it 3 days before Daddys homecoming from Iraq and I was 6 months pregnant.

There's not anything the dr. can do for it. The only reason IMO to take her would be to get a drs. note for childcare, or if she's been around any pregnant people, you may want confirmation so you can let them know.
My 4 yr old had it last fall...once the rash shows up, the virus is no longer contagious. It can last a couple of weeks though. I finally took her to the dr. b/c the people at the church childcare were freaking out about her (she did have a pretty dramatic looking rash on her arms), and he laughed when he walked in and I told him she had 5th's disease I just needed a note:rolleyes: (he did confirm that BTW before he wrote it LOL)

My DD had a lacy rash and it turned out to be roseola, but I would take her in because you can also get a rash with Strep.

My girls' ped usually doesn't want to see them for a rash unless they have a fever as well.
Never hurts to call and ask if they want to see her, though.

I dont now the details on the above mentioned fith disease, but my dd had roseola about a month ago. She first developed a high fever (worse at night time) of about 103-103.5 for about four days. They day after the fever ended she woke up with the rash. Hope she gets better soon.;)

We've had both Fifth disease and roseola; to me the roseola seemed more speckley than lacey. :shrug-shoulders: What you described does sound like Fifth to me. For my kids, getting warm, being outside in the heat/sun, or having a warm bath made the rash look alarmingly darker for a short while. Just an FYI so you don't freak out if it suddenly looks much worse! It lasted about 2-3 weeks both times we've had an outbreak. Roseola was much short, IIRC. Maybe 7-10 days. We've only done that one once.
Hope Aleah is feeling better soon!

We haven't had fifth's, but I've seen roseola before and it was definitely speckly - like red dots kind of. IIRC, the fever lasted around 3 days, then the rash broke out and was gone within a few days. So from start of fever to recovery was maybe a week?
Anyways, doesn't look like roseola to me. ;)

Fifth is definately going around. Two of mine definately had it and I had it. It is miserable as an adult. I had horrible swollen, stiff joints. I still don't have my hand strength back and I can't do things like untie tight knots, I had the rash nearly a month ago now.
My fever was two weeks before the rash appeared. My kids passed through the symptoms faster than I did, a week or less from cold/fever to rash. The rash lasted about 2 days for each of us. The kids did not get the swollen joints either, much better to have it as a kid. I sure hope my youngest had it without the rash so she won't get it as an adult.
I agree with what others have said. Once the rash appears she is no longer contaigious. It can be dangerous if a pregnant woman gets Fifth. Fortunately, most pregnant women would have had it as children and be immune. If a pregnant woman has had known exposure, they will likely have a blood test to check for immunity however.

Sorry - the photo was oxeye's - and was Fifth's, hence why it looked like Fifths.
And I just saw your update too, just before my post.
Teaches me for skimming threads - sorry about that.

Is she a refluxer? I'm thinking yes, IIRC. Anyway, if so, be aware that she may have a bad flare in a few days. My middle had roseola as a toddler and her reflux was horrible a few days after the rash appeared. Of course, her reflux was always horrible, but it definately got worse with roseola.
Hugs to you both, I hope Aleah is feeling better soon!

its funny you mention that, becuase she threw up a couple of times this morning, and once last night. her reflux has been awesome, so much better, but she has her good days and occsionally her bad ones...thanks for the heads up!Is she a refluxer?
