Hi,

I have begun to be quite interested in good quality baby strollers. I have some for my time with my "little friends" on the weekend and another one I will take to my best friend in another province. I think all babies, toddlers should travel in style!

Anyway, I have just purchased a US stroller here, online, very slightly used. It's a Graco Quattro Samba pattern and it's lovely! Blue and black are the colours. Apparently they are not in Canada, or only in very few stores. The seller had it shipped from the US last Fall so it's practically new-not a scratch. The unique thing about this model is that it has rubber tires and some suspension! I did pay $200 Canadian (ouch!), but I know other deluxe Quattros go for much more (and don't have rubber tires).

I talked to TJ's (store in Vancouver/area) about this and they said their vice president does all the "stroller shopping" for what will come into the stores. I knew there were standards about car seats, but didn't know strollers had to be tested too. Does anyone know about that? So, the staff didn't even want to see the stroller. Being "high end Graco" I thought they would, since they sell other models.

Thanks for reading.

Yes, strollers are regulated in Canada just like carseats. I looked at a Mountain Buggy and a Phil & Ted's and at least one (maybe both) were rated for less weight in Canada. Exact same strollers but apparently Canada has more stringent fabric laws. Personally I would used a foreign stroller in Canada to it's manufacturing countries capacities (does that make sense). People come in all different shapes and sizes (ie models) but installing a stroller to a person is not quite as precise as installing a carseat from another country (which is illegal in Canada) in a vehicle, lol. Vehicles and carseats have a lot more variables than strollers.

Oooh, if I lived in Canada, I'd buy a Quinny :)

The safety standards are erratic...you can buy a three wheel Zapp in Canada, but the US standards are that it has to be 4 wheeled to be less tippy, so they had to re-design it to sell it here...crazy...

Really??? That's nuts. I had a Zapp for a 24 hour period before I decided it wouldn't suit our lifestyle. There was nothing tippy about it whatsoever!

I still like my Speedi better :D
