Ok, I talked to Admin (pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!) and if you want to post on the SWAP section of the gear board, you need a minimum of 4 months here, 50 posts, and 20 reputation points. (or mod approval, and that's my next quest to figure out, how to approve people... )

So, post nicely, post a little, and stick around awhile, and you will be in with the in crowd and can sell your carseats/covers/stuff of all sorts, and post requests for things, too...you just never know when someone will have that cowmoo roundabout cover you've been craving, so it can't hurt to ask :)

you get rep points for amount of posts and the length you are here, as well as when others give you some... and I think you start off with 10 points as soon as you become a registered member???

Are you sure? I thought that, with the exception of the 10 you start with, you only got rep points when others gave them to you. Am I completely wrong?

Stephanie, you do have reputation points. You simply have the thingy that shows them turned off. Go to "User CP" and then "Edit Options" to view your points.

Yeah, someone has to give them to you, they don't naturally accrue. Some of us were given like, trillions, just for being mods :D

Im pretty certain for the length you are here you get some because mine suddenly jumped when I hit 3 years

lol yeah you all giving me points would make sense, except I was watching my rep to see if it went up when I hit a new milestone... :o so I dont think it was that unless there were rep points that didnt make it to my screen but made it to my count? I dunno, it was months ago and Im probably wrong but my points did suddenly go up by a lot around my 3 year mark.

When I registered, I only received 5 rep points:( I have a couple more now, but at this rate, I don't know if I will ever hit 20;)

I forgot about this thread, but just remembered it (In other words, I remembered that I forgot:D )

Anyhow, this site seems to be kept under a pretty tight watch, so I think the main concern is really people either not delivering a product or misleading the buyer of what they are buying. So, isn't there a service that "holds" the money until both parties are satisfied? I don't buy much from private sellers online, but it seems like there is something like this out there. This would provide some protection to both parties and keep everyone honest. Obviously, you don't want people coming on here just to rip people off. I do have a few things that I am wanting to post here before I put them on Ebay or somewhere else. Let us know the final verdict.

i'm confused then. I've been here 18 mo, have over 1200 posts, and 35 rep points, and when I posted in swap this AM, it said it had to be approved by admin first.

I think everything has to be approved on that board when you are selling. Just to make sure everything is fine. Just as a saftey thing.

You have to go into UserCP, then scroll down on left side click group membership, then click join group. I haven't actually done this yet, because I don't think I can, but maybe I should just try anyhow??

I went and approved a couple posts...whoops...sorry! Yeah, I think the first few posts have to be approved on that board.

Admin have seen some sour deals and big issues on strollerSWAP and want to prevent that here at all costs, really.

Hmmm... an escrow service...that might be a new angle to assure safety for buyers and sellers... good idea...

I think the limits were set up mostly to make sure people who really care about seats are selling seats and not scamming. We all know not to buy used seats, unless you know the history of the seat and the person you are buying it from. By making sure the person is an active member and by making said person get known by others before being able to sell, seems like a good security measure to me, especially when we are talking about the safety of our kids. I know it makes it a bit of a pain for those who may have seats to sell and haven't reached the limits, but it is for the good of all of us. Remember, until a few months ago, we didn't even have this area!

Senior Community Member usergroup access was setup back in January when all the new changes were made. This way, membership to this usergroup is open to all registered users who contribute regularly and is not an arbitrary clicque of long-time members. You can get in automatically if you reach the preset limits. You can also get in with the approval of the senior community member usergroup leaders (scatterbunny, skaterbabscpst, lovinwaves, papooses, wendytthomas). This is done at their discretion for those who request it in their User CP Group Memberships area. Usually, this will only be done for people they "know" pretty well from Car-Seat.org, other forums or real life. For most members, meeting the preset limits is the best way for access to this usergroup. Requests from many users to join this group will probably be denied if you have joined recently and aren't known well by one or more of the usergroup leaders. More can be found here in the sticky post about the new features:

http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=8936

To try to avoid issues with spammers and new members who might try to take advantage of the Carseat Swap forum, it was setup such that new threads can only be started by senior community members. All registered members can reply to a thread, however, subject to moderator approval. It is setup this way mostly to make sure those participating in the Swap have been around at least a little while and are hopefully more trustworthy than random new members, especially for selling items. To a lesser degree, it's also a small perk of being a regular contributor at Car-Seat.Org ;-)

I hope that explains it well enough! That link to the stick post has more fine details.

paypal has a good policy about keeping people honest. If you pay for an item and it arrives not as discribed or doesnt arrive at all you can dispute it and after either talking it out or a small investigation you can get your money back.
there is also a place that does an escrow type service but I know nothing about it but it is talked about on ebay under their facts somewhere.
