Kellyr2
04-25-2007, 03:04 PM
Boring here. I'm Kelly. Last name starts with an R. On the first message boards I ever signed up on, "kelly" and "kellyr" were taken, so I took "kellyr2." I'm so very original. It stuck, though.
Also, useless trivia - my password for that account was "baby." because I was pregnant. how lame! (see, I wouldn't share that info, except that I later changed the password, and then later got banned, so it doesn't matter anymore!)

rlsadc, you're just trying to get to 1,000 aren't you.:D

You have to tell us yours first:p

My friends have called me MacGyver since the beginning of time (not really, but at least since the show has been around). They call me it because I have a special ability of fixing things that don't work. The fix usually includes the typically artillary of garage items such as duct tape, hose clamps, JB Weld, rope, etc.-you get the idea. I also have been known to save a party from a thunderstorm by rigging tarps around the yard from trees and anything else that didn't move. Anyhow, whenever I registered somewhere (can't remember where) MacGyver was already taken, so just kept trying different things and voila TheRealMacGyver! There is some other guy in either UK or Ireland that uses the name too. That's my story and I'm stick'n to it.

Mine is pretty straightforward, my first name and college acronym. Also a bit of word play inspired by several people who tend to start out by saying Jean, um... when they call me, lol.

Leila was born with at least 3" of straight black hair + darkish skin tone -- unlike my nieces/nephews she constantly wanted to be TIGHTLY bundled & since I wore her in a sling at work we all nicknamed her "Papoose" (native american baby)....

Within a few weeks her hair was curly, but people still ask me if I adopted her from an Indian Reservation, the Middle East or South America  Fewer people than I thought possible actually realize *I* am her mom & her dad is just black! (BTW, we don't use the PC term "African American" since my SO actually volunteered in Africa for many months & learned that there is nothing African about him, LOL)

I think mine is pretty self explanatory. I wish I was more creative, but when it comes to names, I'm not, now if I could decorate my name.... Let's just say, it would be snazzy. But i am kind of computer illiterate, so even if i could, I don't know how.

(BTW, we don't use the PC term "African American" since my SO actually volunteered in Africa for many months & learned that there is nothing African about him, LOL)

ROFL I've met enough people from Africa to understand exactly what he's talking about :) First experience was age 11 at Heathrow Airport waiting for flight. I played with children my own age who were Black, not brown skinned. I loved their colorful clothes and melodic speech. So different from Americans in their outlook and way of life. More than the difference between Irish & Irish-American, imo. :)

Morganthe is my SCA name (Society for Creative Anachronism) that dh created for me years ago in hopes that I would Join him in Battle to fight back-to-back in mortal combat in heavy stick fighting.

Yeah right. Just because I used to have 'anger issues', participated in brawls & bar fights, and was a little too outgoing physically, somewhere he got this concept that I'd like this. Nope. I'm peace, love, & hugs for the last 15 years. I'm not involved at all with the SCA world, but I'll support his habit as long as I keep up my own obsessions

I just read a story about a white lady and a japanese husband and people seeing her and the baby out would ask, 'Where did you get her!!!!???', and the mom saying with a straight face, "My Uterus!" :D

And me? I'm just Jools... plus 3.... I'm leaving my dh out since he's not 'from' me, heheh. My other common name is JoolsTAG... Jools and my middle and last initials (I hyphenated my maiden and married names A-G)

I actually had a conversation with Aidensmom02 about your name! Mine comes from my hobby, which I don't actually get to pursue very often lately (see list of kids and carseats below for reason.) :)

But I am heading out (completely solo!) on Friday for a real trail race on Saturday (or, as I like to call it, a "mini-vacation"). I'll get to spend hours running (and walking) through the woods, and the only whining I'll hear will be my own-- LOL.

The first message board I ever joined, long long time ago, was about Great Danes. We had one and were heavy in rescue for all of central FL, and I signed up to learn more and make friends. I have two dogs, Splash and Wally. Splash is the Dane, so I used her name as my SN there. It just stuck, and I've used it pretty much everywhere ever since. SplashAndWally is also my email address at pretty much every domain in existence, as well as sign in for a lot of other things. In fact, a LOT of people think that Splash and Wally are pet names AJ and I have for each other. Um, no... can you see it? "Hey Wally, c'mon over here..."

skipspin
04-25-2007, 04:24 PM
Mine is old. When my mom was setting up screen names on the computer when I was in high school I told her I wanted Schip-spin. I had a Schipperke (breed of dog- google it) that loved to literally spin in circles. Well, she wasn't thinking and put skipspin. So, that was that. We got another Schipp after I was married and named her Sombra. (Nice sounding Spanish alternative to "Shadow.") Sadly, Shadow passed away at the age of 16 in September, but DD and Sombra are best friends. They get in trouble together.

Paul - "Pablo", and Michelle - "Michi"

abacus2
04-25-2007, 04:57 PM
My now dh created a club in high school (It's in the yearbook and everything, LOL) called NARF (Nerds Are Really Fun). Since he created the club he deemed himself "the Dictator of NARF" and had everyone else chose similar names. Being a math nerd, I chose "the Abacus of NARF." When it came time for me to choose a username at the 1st message board I joined, I went with it but ended up with abacus2 because abacus was taken.

I can only think of one or two places online where I don't have "simply" in my username. Most are variations of my first aol sn from 96 or so. Yep, I've never been cool. Never will be cool, and that's OK! :)

It was the best I could come up with, it was pre-kids, but I wanted it to be flexible enough so that when we had kids, it could apply to the whole family:

Collin and Carolyn's family

It's been my user name everywhere since we got married - so almost 9 years now.

So, I stuck with Aidensmom02, honestly, I'd like to change it. I now have two kids and plan on a third (and maybe fourth), so the others really get left behind... plus, I'd really like to be me again (not always so & so's mom), kwim?

Aiden was born in '02 - Aidensmom02... totally original, eh?

Leila
04-26-2007, 12:34 AM
So there was this woman who was pregnant back in 1974...and she had a baby girl, right?

Leila's my first name. I'm very often asked why it's my first name, if I'm named for the Eric Clapton song (I'm not, I was born four years before he released Layla and it's a Derek & the Dominoes song.), and why I pronounce it incorrectly. Fun, eh?

My DD's name is Sidney Rose. When she was born she was so tiny. That we carried her around on a pillow, so we did not break her. Well she was not too small 6lb 7oz at birth, but she was our first and we were scared to hurt her.

So DH called her LilSid (Little Sidney). Not to original but it stuck. Now she is 30 months old and 36lbs. She is not so little any more. Now she is my chunky monkey.

These are Sidney and Daddy the first few weeks old.

Jools got it right. I have to admit, I've never heard of there being an Irish pronunciation for the name. All I know is that my mother claims to have seen the name in a magazine while pregnant with me. She says she didn't know how to say it, so she decided it was Leila since it ends the same way as Sheila. LOL! I actually use the Sheila reference a lot, it definitely helps people remember the right pronunciation.

Tiffany, I'm glad you posted that. Now I can say Leila's name right when I read your posts, lol! Oh...my high school Spanish teacher just called me Leila...but she took out the e when she wrote it down. There's a lady near here who's originally from Turkey, she always says Layla when she sees me. I don't mind it so much from her...it sounds so melodic. And she always has to tell me, "Layla is be-yoot-ee-fool flower in Turkey. Be-yoot-ee-fool like you!" It is a beautiful flower...a tulip. :D

kangato2roos
04-27-2007, 09:02 AM
Mostly a lurker, but I'll chime in, I suppose.

I like Winnie the Pooh. While Piglet is my favourite, I've been told by dh and good friends I'm more like Kanga. Kanga had Roo. Well, I have two kids, so I have two Roos.

Hence, Kanga (mommy) to two Roos (kids) became kangato2roos... apparently because I'm too lazy to use the shift key and capitalize my letters. :p

Despite popular belief, I'm not Australian.

My name is lovinwaves, because I love the water. Not the ocean, but Lakes to be exact.

I have always lived by a lake and grew up jet-skiing, skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, boating... In fact my DH and I met at "Jet-Ski Cove". We were both on our Waverunners and saw each other, instant love let me tell you LOL!!

The "waves" part of my name is because I love to jump waves or wakes behind boats.

Down in Texas, a quad cab Ram 1500 is itty bitty. Need a hemi, and the dualie... Okay, I mispelled that, I'm sure, but the truck with the 6 wheels.

I know what your saying. When I got my first dualie I was so excited and then I tried to take it through a bank drive thru and almost got stuck. Where we just moved to has low bridges everywhere so I just sent out a memo to the drivers about how to get to our house and that they are not to go more then 5mph while going under the bridges.

LOL

I nearly got stuck in one of those stupid bank drive throughs with my minivan.

Ugh.

There's a lovely scrape on the pass door.

Ahhh, those are the times I love driving a NORMAL sized vehicle :p;)

In Germany, my 4wd Dakota was too tall for city garages.
Life became much simpler when I switched to a VW Passat. It didn't even matter if I had bikes on the roof (rack style made them lay flat), I'd clear everything :D

Well, I've registered on other boards as Partyof5, but just before Christmas we were very surprised to find out we would be 6. So now I am knitting for 4  Also crocheting and sewing but that would be too long ;)
