My Email to her:

Whats the date on the seat?

it doesnt look like a 5pt harness however.

Her responce:

I'll have to get back with you on the date tomorrow.

Maybe you're not familiar with the 5pt harness, because it does have it.

Wow. I cant wait to OWN that seat!

Oh, that is COOL! The new generation of force field 5 pt harnesses...I heard about these at Lifesavers a couple years ago, and it's neat to FINALLY see one on the market. Wow....

 :D

is it possible they are tucked underneath the cover?

Nope, that's definitely a 3pt harness.

I hope so....but why would she just pull out the buckle and not the whole harness?? Too much trouble I guess.

I thought the 3 pt. harnesses had a rigid buckle without webbing attatched???

Not necessarily. Differerent manufacturers do different things.

i just emailed her: "Do you have the harness? In your pictures, all I can see is the piece between the legs, but aren't there supposed to be straps over the shoulders?"

In the top pic, it looks like there are slits in the cover for the hip straps, and it looks like the shoulder straps are pulled over the top of the seat, under the canopy. I think she put the five point harness back together wrong so it looks like a three point.

I was thinking that, too...

ETA: I did a Google search to look for others to compare it to and then I found this awful one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Graco-SnugRide-8645-Lindsey-Infant-Car-Seat-and-Base_W0QQitemZ200089977143QQcategoryZ66696QQssPage NameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Look at those straps!

Since the harness appears to have been removed and put back in (possibly wrongly, too) then it begs the question of whether they removed for cleaning (most likely, why else remove them, lol) and if so, were they soaked/machine washed. Of course new straps might be ordered to replace missing/improperly washed ones, but will the purchaser be aware of the need to do so, etc.

i think what you might be seeing going up the back of the seat is the cushioned rim of the head support insert. our snugride had the same exact pattern, and the rim of the head support was dark blue, same color as the harness straps. notice the hem going around the bottom of the head insert is also dark blue.

Thats exactly what i thought too. I thought that the blue harness wasnt the head support, then remembered that there are no straps coming out of the harness. Interesting.

That pink carseat looks so gross. I know you can only wipe off the straps, but come on, at least throw the cover in wash for before you try to sell that. Does the seat come with a free tetnus shot too? Why are people so crazy to buy used car seats off of a website? I only know one person I would buy a car seat, and that is only because she is as big of a freak about car seats as I am, actually, she is probably worse than me! At least our kids are safe!

It does look like a 5pt with the upfront adjust (with the harness straps just missing) to me because of the flap on the cover that would cover the adjuster . My Graco snugride with the upfront looks like that, I just have my harness' in my seat

Yup, from what I've seen, Evenflo is the only one that currently (or within the last few years) offers a 3 pt. with the buckle on a strap in the US/Canada.
Graco, Century, Cosco, etc. all have the buckles attatched to the seat.

The lady on craigslist said that she washed the cover so the 5 pt harness straps are underneath the cover in that pic. I emailed her back to ask her if she washed the harness - I'll let you know if she replies.

Sorry...didn't have much time to hunt down one in the seat:p .
It attached to a rigid buckle tongue (?) on the seat.

This lady is quick to reply to her emails! :)

She said that she did not wash the harness. She obviously works for State Farm Insurance because of her email address....so maybe she actually knows a tidbit or two about carseats.

I agree, TJ, why would she not re-thread the harness for the pic??? She could have avoided all of our emails!

I know!!! She's going to go through all the trouble to get the DOM to us - b/c we're still playing it off like we're actually interested in her seat....and then we're not going to get it! I would probably feel bad about it if I haven't had people do that to me on craigslist!

At least when I listed dd's carseat on CL, I let them know it had never been in an accident and the straps had never been washed, the DOM and when it expires and all kinds of good info about the seat and I even posted a pic of the DOM sticker on the seat! :p Some people just don't think like we do!!!

I just saw a 3-pt snugride for sale in a store yesterday. And boy was I shocked. They had a few of them new in boxes on the shelf for sale. I should've checked the manufacture date. Of course it was also right beside a cosco arriva - also a 3pt harness.

The crazy thing? It was $129 - that's how much I paid for my front adjust 5pt snugride at toys'r us when it went on sale.

and I did not know that you could buy the Safeseat without the base, but according to this person, they were $129 new with out the bases!

Ooooold, they are oooold stock, they aren't making them anymore, they only go to 20 pounds, which has not been the law for, what, 2 years now? (I went to the allegro medical site that Amazon was selling that three point one from to see).

That first one in question is absolutely a 5 point, that's the little flap for the harness adjuster there on the front :)

If the seller works for state farm, it's probably a confiscated crashed seat, huh? people DO resell and reuse those a lot, :(

Yikes! That is scary!!! However, my State Farm office didn't confiscate my seat from my accident. They just told me to replace my carseat, send them a receipt and destroy the one that was in the accident. I know they're not all like that, though. :(

I just found this one on my local Craig's list:

I have a Britax carseat from 1999. It comes with the owners manual and it needs a new seat cover. Other than that it is in pretty good condition. It has not been in an accidents.

Well that is great that it hasn't been in any accidents seeing as how it has been expired for 2 years. I sent an email... let's see if I get a response.

ETA - I got a response (wow, fast!) "Thanks". That was it.

The original picture posted looks identical to the Snugride I owned. From what I can tell, the fabric is the same. If so, it is indeed a five-point harness. I remember it being a pain to get the buckle pieces through those hip slots in the fabric, so I can believe her not wanting to rethread them.

I bought mine in early 2002 (not sure of actual DOM). I don't know how long they made that fabric, but the seat is surely close to expiring.

(And no, that's not me trying to sell my seat on Craigslist!)

yep! that fabric dates to 2002. ours was mfrd 9/02 and is stamped to expire 12/07... but for a new infant who will grow out of it within 9 months, there's nothing wrong with that.

we also used to store ours with the harness straps tucked under the cover. before storing it, we would remove the cover (which requires removing the harness) to wash, then we would pack it all into a box without re-threading the harness (since we had no way of knowing which slots to use when we got it ready for the next baby).

Nothing wrong so long as people know that. I have lent ours to a good friend whose first baby was born at the end of January, knowing that the baby would outgrow it before it expired. But I worry that when people are buying seats off Craiglist, they aren't even thinking about DOM.

I have known people who have actually bought used car seats from craigslist/Ebay, only to destroy the seat so that no one else can use them. If i lived in the States, I would consider it. But it would be quite a bit more than $35 for me after exchange and shipping.
