I forget the year now: it's my friend's.... We ride with her or in my other friend's Toyota Corolla on Sundays during out Girls Day Out thing :) Leila in the center in her Giraff Compass + another 5 year old in a Turbo outboard with me in the back (I don't care about riding shotgun when I'm safer in the back ) Neither vehicles have center headrest -- hence the highback booster instead of the backless Starriser Comfy -- & both have center shoulder belt. Kinda

The Aztec shoulder belt comes down from the ceiling, but instead of actually buckling into something else to then become a functional lap/shoulder belt, it just hooks onto an existing lap only belt. So the vehicle has lightweight locking buckle latch plates & Leila is good about not leaning out of position while I'm in the back with her, but it just freaks me out that the shoulder belt really just sort of loops onto a tiny piece on the outside of the male end of the lap belt buckle.... The vehicle manual wasn't much help, but I figure it would be less safe for me to be in the center without head rest :o

Does anyone know what kind of seatbelt I'm talking about? Any comments???

Here in Canada they're called a Type 2A seat belt assembly. They are supposed to function the same as a lap shoulder belt assembly when the shoulder portion is attached.

It should be fine but I'd want to check to make sure the shoulder portion has emergency locking retractors, you never know it may even have a switchable retractor. Give it a good sharp (fast not necessarily hard) tug and see if you can lock it up if you can you've got ELR's and you're good to go.

Already checked to see if I could lock her in -- no go there.... But, thank you muchly for the name of the belt type :)

I miss my Aztek so much. And I loooooooooved that center belt. The best belt ever, in my opinion.

Per Julie, the center is perfectly safe for a booster. It's a bit difficult, but fine.

God WHY did I trade in my Aztek for a Forester? WHY?!?! Why didn't I just FIX the thing?

Grrrr

Thanks ... if the shoulder belt just had switchable ALR it would make me feel better about it -- I can just imagine some other kid (certainly not my Leila, LOL) easily unhooking it without the adults noticing   :(
